Is it for your laptop? In that case check out the S-Video to RCA option. Picture quality is many times better... particularly if you plan to connect it to your TV and watch movies. I use one and can vouch for the quality.

Well, its very easily available if you are buying a Dell (even in India). You can opt for it under accessories. Otherwise, you can get one from one of those many sites which even port these to international addresses. Problem is the thing will cost you some $5 but the cheapest shipping to India is another $5. So $10-11 is the minimum cost for these adapters if procured from international sites. If you have a friend coming in from US then things are very easy.

A third option is to buy locally manufactured ones. The quality in terms of material is not very impressive but they too work fine. If you buy the wire (not just the adapter) then go for the single connector one. This basically takes care of the video. The audio can easily be be connected via an audio connector cable (easily available) through the earphone jack. The locally manufactured single wire ones cost some 80-100 bucks.

what is that single connector one ?? i thought both S-video & Rca were giving only video outputs & not audio. :confused: :confused:

Naah... apparently they also sell one with two RCA connectors. One is for the video and the other for the audio. I have never tried these but I think if you used it you will get mono audio. The S-Video port can have 4 pin connection or the 7-pin connection. I reckon the 7-pin ones can also send audio signals.

You mean mono audio from the comp to the monitor (Which presumably has speakers) ?

I agree. I use the S-Video 4 pin type and the effect is too good on the TV. Very easy to connect too. Mine is a Philips one and costed me around $12. It does transfer video only and the audio is from the speaker connected to the laptop computer. Have not come across a 7 -in type though !

7 pin ones are only availble for HDTV compatiple cards and are used for Component input(Y Pb Pr) and not audio.The picture quality is much much better than S-Video.

Laptops or Desktops normally have s-video out.the following outputs are possible for

4pin s-video out
S-video-4 pin connetor
RCA- S-Video to RCA convertor

7pin s-video/component out(HDTV compatible cards eg:Geforce 7xxx )
S-video- 4 pin connetor
RCA- S-Video to RCA convertor
Component- 7 pin connector(Y Pb Pr output)

Audio and video through same cable are only availble in HDMI(High Definition Multimedia Interface)

I'm a bit confused after seeing such a cable. It seems to me as a special purpose cable, which may not be readily available off the shelves. I'm saying this since conventional VGA is RGBHV, while composite and S-Video (Y/C) is a different thing altogether, you cannot convert RGBHV into S-Video or composite that easily, you need a transcoder for such conversions.
