Well, probably wont be a hugely noticable difference between 720p and 1080p on any mid sized TV --- what we gotta do is get our hands on a high res DLP projector and some GT5 !!!

How many cars/tracks do they have in the game now? I heard some online upgrades are being provided.

Polyphony Digital today announced that the company has signed a deal with BBC Worldwide to allow users to view episodes of the popular motoring show Top Gear through the PlayStation 3.

Gamers can watch up to 40 episodes of the popular Television series, run by the ever exuberant trio of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, via the new Gran Turismo TV Channel, which is set to launch next year.

The BBC also revealed that the infamous test-track featured in the programme would be included in Gran Turismo 5, allowing players to race a variety of machines around the course in a similar mould to Top Gear’s very own motoring legend, 'The Stig'.

Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi commented, "We're sure that players will be as thrilled as we are when they get the chance to put their own driving skills to the test on the Top Gear Test Track in GT5, as well as enjoying classic episodes of Top Gear via GT TV.”

Gran Turismo 5 will be released in North America and Europe some time in 2008; stay tuned for more coverage as it breaks.

As it turns out I didnt go to Geekay - I sat at home and bought it from the Playstation store @ USD 39.

Still downloading the game (3 hours up now, 60% complete) - see you all online sometime. I have the same online ID as out here and Duboy will be racing as Veyron Menon.

This is on the list of things to do.

First impressions with GT5 are a bit of a downer - it isnt as fun as NFS ProStreet, at least as of now. Graphics are fantastic, but the game doesnt give you the 'driving' sound effects that the NFS games give. This is more 'disconnected' with soft music drowning the engine sound. Cannot drift as well as on NFS either - this one is unforgiving.

Cannot seem to download the update, though - I keep getting the download notification and click 'yes', but nothing seems to happen. I tried leaving it on through the night - still didnt work.

NFS engine sounds are blown out of proportion. Every car in the game sounds like something out of "Fast and the Furious". The GT series have loads of stock cars and the engine note is directly recorded from the real thing.

Give it some time n you'l get used to it.

BTW, you could disable music in GT4, i'm sure GT5 has that option as well.

Drifting again is far more diff on the GT series. It can be done but needs a lot of practice. It always helps to have a steering wheel instead of a PS3 controller.
