Apparently there are a couple of differences that make the iPhone a much better deal. Maybe more differences will be reported as more people get to play with the Touch.

- The iPod touch's screen display is of a lower quality than that of the iPhone's -- blacks are not being displayed properly. ( iPod touch having display issues? - Engadget )
- The iPod touch retains the old iPod's steel back -- scratches galore in a few minutes of unboxing :( ( iPod touch unboxed and, um, touched - Engadget )

Hugh, if you use Linux or would not like to use iTunes on Windows (and prefer other players like Winamp for example), BAD news with the new iPods. The new iPods are stuck with iTunes.

There was some problem with the iPod Touch's screen. At least some of them:

Quote:
It looks like those complaining of problems with the iPod touch's screen weren't seeing things, as Apple has now reportedly confirmed that at least some early units did indeed ship with defective screens. That bit of news comes at the tail end of a review of the player by none other than Walt Mossberg, who reports that Apple says the problem affected a "small number of units" and that it is "being remedied." Exactly what that remedy entails, however, is unclear, as is the exact number of units affected. In related news, there's also been a few unconfirmed reports cropping up of similarly dim screens on newer iPhones, with the problem seemingly traced to units released after the now infamous price cut. No word from Apple on that, but if your new iPhone's display looks a little off, feel free to let us know.

Ah, the joys of jumping on the Earliest production units.

As fate has it, the HOLD switch conked out within 3 days of getting it.
Sound quality from the supplied earphones also not too great.

Right now the Pod is gone. Returned back. I have been assured that the unit will be changed, but I fear that it may just be opened up to rectify fault in some shady Delhi by-lane.

I guess it is best to buy anything that launches, after a test period of at least 6 months and after tking reviews.

In other news today, the Yeti® bought an iPod classic 160GB today, in Bangalore.
He paid Rs. 14000/- for it and is over the moon with happiness. It is silver in colour and a bit thicker and heavier than his previous 30gB iPod video.
He has registered it online and now it is under worldwide warranty.

At 16GB capacity, and at that price, it is a big waste, IMHO.

the only good things about it are the interface and the wifi. otherwise it is also prone to lots of scratches etc.
