I quoated price of 880 for 1700mA NiMH battery(4Hr charging time) bought from Sony world, 2.2K is for 2500mA NiMH (20 min charging time).
Best source is Sony world.

I have original Sony NiMh batteries that came with my camera. They don't last very long. One brand I found outstanding is Camelion, a German company, outstanding batteries. They also make a good battery charger, that fast charges within 2 hrs and then trickle charges if you keep the batteries in the charger for longer.

well guys, Sony and many other brands are priced very high in the market. If usage is not much, i would suggest a decent charger like Chamelion (no auto cutoff after charge and other gizmo features). Buy good batteries. I got some for my camera 2100mAH GP brand batteries (Rs 60 each, 2 years back) from my trusted vendor. Working like a charm. Beware of buying loose unpacked batteries as they may be duplicate unless you trust the vendor.

If Eveready is available, with AAA niMH batteries, thats your best option IMO.

PS: I got a few Panasonic AAA batteries from SP road for my cordless headphones and they were working great for a few years.

A question:

I have a HP camera which was gifted to me by my uncle and is of US specifications. The original batteries were 1.5 V AA rechargeables (sorry for omitting the power as I am not aware of it). In India we do not get batteries in this specification. All the AA rechargeables are 1.2 V. These batteries last only above 5 clicks when flash is used and upto 10 when flash is not used.

The originals lasted much much longer.

It is a damn good camera and I really hate not to use it just because I do not have the batteries for it. Can someone point me to a shop where I can get them in NCR. Tried using AA non rechargables but they last a whopping two clicks. So that is not an option anymore. Please advice. please:

Camelion makes good rechargable batteries. But I suspect there are some fakes though. I have one set that lasted over 2-3 years and another one went bust with hardly 5-10 uses.

The latest among rechargables is Sanyo eneloop. These batteries have received very good reviews and supposedly long lasting (most importantly no need to charge first time. Use straight off the pack). I have asked my friend to pick up a few from US!

Anyone knows whether eneloop is available in India?

I bought them at Rs. 550/- for the pack of 4 batteries rated 2100 mAh.

Eneloop available at JJmehta.com, a very quick and trustworthy seller. I now am slowly shifting only to Eneloop, am finding them unbeatable.

I am using eneloop battery + charger since past 2 years. Absolutely satisfied with the performance of eneloop. I have Canon S5 IS camera and I never feel to keep addition set of battery for my camera. Charge has slop for AAA and AA batteries both.

But, beware there are many fake eneloop are also in market. I bought eneloop from Singapore.

Anuj, which charger are you using with Eneloop ?

Charger is also from eneloop. I bought bundled charger + 4 battery AA size in a pack. It is quick charger and charges 4 battery really fast. It is same as below pic.

Thanks Anuj. I was wondering if I can charge Eneloop in other NiMH chargers. I have a (2 hours) charger from a brand JPL with LCD display charge indicator for individual cells. I am yet to charge them you see, they are giving good service straight from the pack on my flash.

I am using a Uniross brand charger and Everyready /Uniross 2100 Ni-Mh batteries, the performance is quit decent. I have stopped buying ordinary zinc chloride / alkaline batteries as I feel that in India there is no safe disposal method available at least in my area.

Trashing used-up batteries is certainly not environmentally friendly, rechargeables may be a bit expensive to buy initially but I feel satisfied that I won’t be throwing batteries in trash often.

an alternative to Eneloop is Godrej GP Recyko branded batteries. These are claimed to retain 80% charge over a year (Similar to Eneloop) and are available at MK Retail in Bangalore.

I have not used these personally, but have read good reviews about them.

You can charge Eneloop with any good charger meant for NiMh batteries. I would recommend using a slow charger for normal use (charging time more than 5 hrs) and using the fast charger only when urgent need arises. This way your batteries will last longer, as a fast charger stresses the battery, prduces heat, etc.
