Do not underestimate the power of weather sealing.
Many lenses are better sealed than the bodies, and india is a very very dusty place.
Pentax has some really amazing features which photographers can appreciate. Remember the K-1000? It was such an ordinary camera, yet extraordinary, I would call the 10D similar. Its not the best in every field, but does not have flaws either.
If you are a raw shooter it actually makes more sense than the Oly if you don't care much for live view.
that said, choosing after handling is the best thing.

I would advise against XTi, because its a generation behind, and a new kid on the block may come before end of next year.
So why not go for some new camera(Nov is the launch time in most cases) rather than the previous generation

Pentax has released new DA* range of lenses which are weather sealed
Ofcourse at $1000 it doesnt come cheap... 50-135mm f2.8 and 16-50 f2.8...Although I am yet to be convinced of weather sealing as such for normal shooting conditions. (probably goes to show I am still a beginner stupid: )

I have seen some kayaking and surfing photos from K10D and I see complete value add there..

I am not underestimating the need for weather sealing, but it doesn't come cheap. When a person is considering his first dSLR, weather sealing is not the most important aspect. I've used SLRs since 1989, but I never felt a real need for weather seals. I just avoid dusty/wet conditions, and that's that. Weather sealing is a nice feature to have, but surely not an essential feature for an amature.

If you are talking of the Panasonic Lumix FZ series... they are the best in the class except for the sensor which is noisy at anything over ISO 100. There's a wee-bit of noise even at ISO 100.

1 - Sigma/Tamron AF-S DX VR 18-200mm.

or

2 - Nikkor AF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G.

Whats my best pick here 18-200mm or 18-135 mm ?

If you recommend option 1 , which one is better Sigma or Tamron ?

It has to be this. Without IS or VR a slow 200, for all practical reasons will be useless. Infact even the 135 will be little difficult.

I know its convenient, but still why an all in one lens??? I recently came across a guy who was selling his fm10, 24/50/100mm prime lens kit. Was looking thru his pics, they were all quite neat, elegant and beautiful. And that fm10 didn't have metering i suppose. I was having horrible time with film till i switched over to digital. I am now fixing up all the exposure goof ups, by looking up at the histogram/preview, by taking multiple shots.

BTW can we see some sample pics from that tokina 124? I am might end up buying one in near future. Heard it has **tank** like build quality:D and super good sharp.

I went around hunting for one and found one in National Market. Asking price was 36k :Shockked: .

It depends upon how your camera performs at higher ISO. If you are fine with that 400,800, 1600 etc then 135 end should be fine. Some of my 100mm pics were not sharp because of slight shake! And they were taken at f/2.8. So nowadays I am pushing the iso little higher when I use this lens. But then it should be my problem in hand holding them.

I was talking with jeyesh. Hope you know this vendor. It depends on lens. Some high end lens(70-200 f4 IS:D) he quoted about 10% more than US web retailer price. Which is pretty good. But for some cheaper lens, the price diff was pretty high. Yeah, of course these are w/o b&w.

BTW this guy didn't had that tokina, atleast for the canon mount which I was checking.
