Ok Guys bought the WX1 from Sony at a super price of 13,000 Rs(MRP 20,000) and a 8 GB Sony card (Rs 1900).I wanted a HX1 but found it too bulky .Also i wised HX5 had been released with 10X zoom but it has not .
In the few hours of usage of WX1 i am extremely happy with my purchase and research and would recommend this to anyone .
I can shoot in any light anything .But i am not able to shoot the stars (Will search why) else in near darkness i am getting extremely good photos.

Regards

Thank You Navin,

Well I debating between a used 40d & a new 50d from US (Canon). At ebay I saw this amazing package. Do let me know if its any good and if its trust worthy.

thnx

I dont care at all for this package.
1. The lenses included are terrible. Stick to Canon/Nikon lenses or at least the top end (read as f/2.8) Sigma HSM /Tamron XR-Di/Tokina ATX-Pro lenses.

2. The focus is the body (which will depriciate) instead of the lenses.

Ideally I would consider a package build around the Canon 15-85 and Nikon 16-85 lenses. This way one can add the 70-300 IS/VR lenses with just the right ammount of overlap (70-85mm).

These (15-85/16-85) lenses are not cheap (about $700) and at this price one might even be tempted to look at the 17-55 offerings (about $1000-1200). The Canon 17-55 is $200 or so chepaer and has IS the Nikon does not.

$600-650 lens mated to a $650-750 body will give you a nice starter kit: $1400 for a D90 with a 16-85VR or a $1350 for a 500D with a 15-85IS or $1250 for a D5000 with the 16-85VR.

You can then add a 70-300 for $500, Hoya filters for UV/Polarisers for $100, Manfrotto 055X tripod for $200 and a 430EX or SB800 flash for $200 and a good bag for $100.

If you only considering kits, consider kits like this...(you can add a 70-300 IS lens)
Canon | EOS Rebel T1i (500D) Digital SLR Camera with 18-135mm IS

or this..(you can add a 70-300 VR lens)
Nikon | D5000 Digital SLR Camera Kit with 18-105mm Lens | B&H

or this...
Nikon | D90 SLR Digital Camera Kit with Nikon 18-105mm VR Lens

There is no free lunch. So any kit that has free Reflex lenses or free digital flashes should be treated with suspicion. Get a good Canon (430EX/580EX) or Nikon SB600/800 flash, Hoya polariser and UV and ND filters and a good Gitzo or Manfrotto tripod.

Get select good parts and treat them well and they will last you for the life of the camera (100,000 photos+).

BTW we should move this discussion to the DSLR thread.

Wow. The discussion is getting pretty pro. As rightly pointed at by Navin, it should be moved to the dSLR thread.

Keeping in mind these requirements, what do you suggest? As per my understanding, S2000HD proved the best bet. Can anyone confirm whether TZ11 has manual controls?

Also, there seems to be a short supply of this model, can anyone please suggest a place in Pune to buy this?
Guys any comments on my queries. I want to finalize the camera this week..!

Thanks Navin,

You have helped me decide ! I will skip this package and try and get a 50d body through US first before I slowly and steadily collect some good quality lens.

The cam I like in the Rs. 10-11K price band is the Canon A2000IS. Then again I favour Canon cameras. Below that the A480 can be got for about Rs. 6K. For 2K more (12-13K) the SX120.

No I am not a Canon dealer nor do I have any commercial relationship with Canon it is just that I know their product line well and their productsd are easily available in India (along with Sony and maybe Nikon).

I would still recommend the S2000 HD.

Have you checked the Panasonic Lumix FZ35 ? If you can stretch your budget to 18k (grey market), it is an awesome camera to own.

Other options:

Canon SX120 IS - 15k
Fujifilm F70 EXR - 17k

In Mumbai we get the Canon for 12.5K and the Fuji for 16K Canon with 2 years and the Fuji with 3 years warranty. Also the IXUS 95 for 9K (2 years warranty).

My son uses the Ixus. My wife the Fuji, and my mom the SX120 (but she does not take it out often now).
