A friend of my mine is looking for a Camera, a basic one within 7-8k budget

1. Easy to use
2. 10MP
3. Robust

Size doesn't matter much but pictures should come out good.

I suggested him Canon PowerShot A495 . Please let me know id there are other good / better options within 8k

Any Exchange schemes

People buying new cameras often, what do you do to your old cameras? Sell it, exchange it or gift it?

I already have one old film camera and digital P&S. I am planning to upgrade to a bridge camera. But dont want 3 cameras at home. Know of any camera guys who takes in the old ones?

Vivek, nice videos you have there.. I don't know why but this camera keeps sitting at the back of my head. I've decided to go with the Canon SLR for now, but I'll surely be eyeing this for next year, maybe.. My wife could use it too, and it's great fun [I'm yet to read the review I've posted below].

Great choice, have fun.

If you are going for a DSLR, you might look at Casio EX-FH25 as the fun camera. Has almost everything except stellar manual zoom and is much cheaper. Only thing that stopped me from getting it was that audio and zoom could not used together in video, and the brand name.

my blog has some pics too http://blog.vivekyadav.net/2010/04/fuji-hs10.html

I have a 4 month old SX120IS. Eats lot of battery and picture quality is just fine. And pictures lack depth. May be it's the settings that's not giving me good quality pictures. Anyways, I'm not very happy with the cam.

Would suggest SX100IS.

Thanks,
Jose.

Here are more samples and a good collection too. I am still confused to get this for Awesome feature or the FZ35 for Image Quality and compromise on Zoom and feature. I know they are probably quite different cameras, but i'm still confused nonetheless.

Please do try some party shots and share your photos. Let's not jump into conclusion too early.

Congrats! Cannot wait to hear your experiences

Please increase your budget a little and get the Fujifilm AV100. It is a lot better.
Sorry for the delayed response but was busy with work and writing my TL on my recent visit to Vaishno Devi. Here are a few pics taken in the night time with my coolpix.

my blog has some pics too Vivek's weblog: Fuji HS10
Vivek, I did check the Casio but the WHizz fellas apparently even deny knowledge of the model. They don't even have stock of the EX-FH20, let alone 25. Plus I asked about the 6 mpx EX-F1 camera which is for Rs.59,999/- officially.. Needless to say, I came out laughing.

I'm not way too impressed with the Exilim series for now, maybe I'd wait a year and get one among the latest Exilim offer then or the FinePix.. Casio is pricey whereas Fuji FinePix, at today's rate of 26K+ makes a very strong case for itself..

Aab ke liye, I'll deep dive into the DSLR pit

Btw, I've seen your blog and the pics there.. It's nice, which is why the HS10 will remain on my mind

Casio EX-F1 was the first high speed model. it still sells for USD 999 here. I guess casio doesn't re-evaluate the profitability of it's models once released.

Ask specifically about FH20 or 25. they can be had here between 300-400. just need to get the right supplier in India i guess.

I did that Vivek. With Casio authorised retailer [Whizz]. Like I wrote earlier, they did not have stock of the EX-FH20 and have no idea about the FH25.. So much for being an authorised retailer [and only them in whole of bangalore]..

Let's see, this is for next year anyway. There [probably] will be a plethora of options then, with 26x+ zoom.
