Summer is back, and i made a 120 fps movie (slowed to 30fps), at 480p from my HS10. this time i had ample light so no editing needed.

edit: youtube defaults it to 360p, one needs to change it while watching.

I am planning to buy Nikon D3100 with 18-55 + 50-300 mm lens to start my DSLR photography. I have gone through several post and forms in the internet and I just liked this model more than any other models in the entry level sector.

Just want to know if anyone has better thoughts other than D3100 ?

Need some suggestion regarding compact digital camera. I am looking for one with the following features:
1) 12 MP Camers
2) Min 5X optical zoom, If more then better.
3) Min digital zoom of 4X
4) Optical Image stabilization/Shake free
5) Atleast 3 in screen

The max budget is 10-12K preferably inclusive of SD card too and/or pouch.

Kindly let me know.

Any one around Coimbatore has a XD card which is 1GB or more. The issue is that, my fuji S5100 (as per the manual) say it can only take upto 512MB card. I have a 256MB card. The least I could find in the market(online) now is 1GB. I would like to try it first if any one has it before buying it!!

quick question. Does 12X 5MP give the same resolution as 5X 12MP?

my guess is zoom's effect is squared because its in two dimensions. 12X 5MP should have more resolution.

Look at the Canon 1100D as well. The reason I say this is because the Canon range is generally cheaper. I have a Nikon system btw.

Then came the digitals and i own a sony 12mega pixel and in handy cam i have the Sony HDD with full HD recordings. I am pretty happy with the Hancy cam as it is one of the latest with Full HD and HDMI outputs.

I am not to pleased with the sony digicam. It is good for quick shots but when plan to click outdoors and landscapes.... tch..not impressive.

I am contemplating a Cannon 600. No specific reason.

i need some expert advise to help me . Aim is to take good pics during your holidays. Budget is not a constraint.

Which is a good P&S to buy under 10K?
Sony? Canon? Nikon? Panasonic? etc?

I was more inclined to Canon/Nikon.

now i have shortlisted few and will be going for one of the below, please suggest me if anything else can be added to the list?

Panasonic FZ40 or 100, Canon SX30is, Fuji HS20, Nikon p500(not very sure about this.)

Stay away from FZ100. It is coming with a new MOS sensor and people are not happy with the image it is producing. Better stick with FZ40 or FZ45 or whatever latest is there in the lineup.
