Although not available in 35X cameras, but Panasonic has GPS on the compact cameras like TZ10 and TZ20 with a zoom capbility of 12X and 16X respectively. But I am told that the GPS drains the battery faster than anything. So lesser battery time for the pics actually.

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Hi,

I am having an EOS 1000D with a normal class1 8GB SD card. The camera is very slow while taking long exposure shots. It takes around 10 seconds to see the auto review image after closing the shutter. This happens only for long exposure shots, mostly in bulb mode.

Will upgrading to a faster class 6 SD card solve this?

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Any one got any reviews of Sony's HX7V model?
CMOS sensor, 10X optical, few 3D functions, GPS and compass (useless) Sony G lenses.
Retailng at 385USD in Dubai.
Worth picking up?
If not any other suggestion pls? Not looking for DSLR size camera as it is a pain carrying such huge size cameras.
Rgds.

That's likely due to long exposure noise reduction that is done in-camera, after the shot is taken. Try in RAW, if there is no or little delay in image review, then it's surely the long exposure NR.

I bought this camera on Saturday to go with situations where the DSLR is not convenient to carry. So far, liking it. I don't see much use of GPS/compass but the other features such as CMOS sensor, sweep panorama, 10X optical zoom, full HD video recording are handy. Wide end aperture of f/3.5 is little disappointing. 385USD is expensive though. More than the India price.

Are you sure its at wide-end??? In that case its a really a sad thing!! I often notice this kind of f-numbers in low end p&s. BTW, what is the max aperture on the tele-end???

BTW, I have an old 10x optical jhoom lens camera the f-number varies between f2.8 to f3.1, wide to tele!!!

The max aperture at the tele-end is f5.5.

Are you sure your camera's aperture varies from 2.8-3.1 from wide-tele? I have my doubts. The lowest f drop I have seen in a P&S camera across the zoom range is the Lumix LX5 where the f varies from 2.0 to 3.3 but with a 3.8x optical zoom.

Hay, So how is the cam, were you able to play around it a bit?
Few questions after reading a 'lot' of reviews on the net . The more i feel this is the right gift, the more confused I get after reading reviews.

1. How long is the battery lasting?
2. Are you able to zoom in and out in video? Is it losing focus?
3. In zooms, 25x+ is the video too shaky and not useable?
4. Can you share some pic, low light ones and the ones in high zoom (the ones without the tripod)?

Thanks in advance.

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

I picked up a nikon l120 yesterday. Totally amazed with the picture quality and versatility of the camera. For the price, the camera is a steal. I fully recommend it.

1. How long is the battery lasting?
Charged on day one & took around 85 snaps. Camera is idle now and still it shows fully charged
2. Are you able to zoom in and out in video? Is it losing focus?
It takes a second or two for regaining the focus. But the zoom motor sounds irritates, the same is recorded in the video.
3. In zooms, 25x+ is the video too shaky and not useable?
Yes. Tripod is a must for zoom, especially for videos
4. Can you share some pic, low light ones and the ones in high zoom (the ones without the tripod)?
Not tested in Low light, let me try tonight & upload the snaps

Thanks in advance.
I don't find time for any photographic session.
Please find the comments in Bold

I have taken the snap of a moving jet with 36x zoom, without tripod or any support. Hope the pictures should answer your query.

That is very commendable then for a 10x optical camera. I was referring to current generation cameras. I assume Fujifilm no longer makes this camera looking at the 4MP sensor and review dated Jan 2005. The sensor size at 1/2.7" is also smaller than the standard 1/2.3"-1/2.4".
