I recently visited Sony and Canon shops, there are lots of options. I was amazed to see the prices that are really affordable.

Sony G series is great also Canon ixus series can be had within the range.

All the best!

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

You can read some reviews on DPReview.com
If its low light performance you need, maybe you are refering to good performance with flash, good spread, red eye reduction, able to adjust the flash power?
PnS are not for low light photography (w/o flash). Canon should be good.

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Without a in-depth review plz dont buy a camera.
Havent had experience with any Super zooms, but how good is the Image Stabilization (IS) in that camera? It will be of no use buying a super zoom with bad IS.

I can vouch for FZ35. Its a tried and tested model. In case he wants to go deep into photography later on, there is an option of RAW also in it. My friend has it. Stay away from FZ100. Its has some sensor issues.

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Im saying in general.

Why are you considering SX130 when SX150 is here?

I wanted some reviews of the nikon P500. Obviously its not a DSLR But a DSLR look alike lol. But for someone as unprofessional as me who wants to learn, will it be a good choice?

Also specify some alternatives if you think they are better.

i was in a similar position as you few months ago. After doing my research I bought the Sony DSC-HVX100V. I did consider the Nikon P500 as well but leaned towards the Sony because it had a wider range in the ISO settings as well as in the Shutter speed settings. Do have a look at the sony as well. The MRp was quoted at Rs.22,990, I got it for 22,000 flat and am very very happy with it.

All in all, the cameras in this segment are quite similar in performance, be it the Panasonic or Nikon or sony. Canon also has a model in this segment, the Canon SX40 but is priced a bit too high. I did read reviews on all the above and settled on the sony. The sony is made in japan and comes with a 3 year warrenty.

FZ100 is a nice camera but compared to FZ35 image quality is little low and more noise in low light, but the new model FZ150 beats FZ35 in image Quality and loads of features.

Not all cameras are built equal. My opinion Lumix. Cheers!

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Guys, I got myself a new SONY DSC-HX100V camera on Wednesday. The total deal was Camera + 4 GB memory card+ HDMI cable + Sony carry case = 22,500/-. I bought the camera from Sony distributor in Pune. I had checked the prices on Flipkart, Ebay and most sites and the prices were exactly same. The only difference was that Sony gave me carry case free, which none of the sites was offering.

Here's the link to the official page: DSC-HX100V : H Series : Digital Still Camera : Sony India

The quality of the pics is excellent for a digital camera. I will share two sample photos here.

Full Moon:

This is the best I could manage with the limited knowledge I have of this camera and its million settings. I am sure I can get even better picture.

Lunch at a cafe:

I used the 'Gourmet' scene mode to shoot this and it has come out excellent IMO.

Absolutely love that moon. I finf the thumbnails in T-BHP adequate for almost all the pictures, but I had to click that one to full size!

Hand held? Surely it couldn't be!
