Olympus Zuiko 50-200mm F2.8/3.5 is more like a Hubble telescope, nice one
me going for W30(6mp) or W70(7.2), which 1 is better , sony t series and W100 are quite expensive
quite sad sony has optical zoom on either 3x or straight 12x :(

The winner in the category of Digital Cameras costing $600 or above has been announced sometime back. This means only SLRs or high-end consumer cameras were considered here.

You may be surprised by the rankings:

That made me calculate the x factor I have. With the combination of lenses I have I can start from 28mm and reach 560mm, that's like 20X.

What're you planning to do - join the American forces in Iraq????

OT - I bought a Sony camera for the first time today. Its a compact digital for informal occasions - the W50. It was more of a 'family' purchase.

And wats the maximum card size this cam can take ?

Second query is how are PanaSonic CamCoders ? I was watching GadgetGuru they they were showing Panasonic DVD camcoder which was for around 23k ? Can someone shed light on this too please.

Also anyone can suggest a good digital camera other than sony for 10k + 2k for the card.

Ok heres a normal pic of my rolls size 3072x2304

and heres the same pic scaled down to fit in size for the bhp members gallery size 500x390

notice the distortion on the grille, headlamps, the two vents below the wipers, the number plate and all metallic beadings atc.. Why does this happen and how does one rectify it?

Q: Also how does one multi quote when posting??

I got a Canon A70 from the US in 2004, its 3.2 MP and 3X optical zoom. Worked well for 2 years but a few months ago, it just wont start and took it to a dealer and he mentioned some problems with lens and quoted me 4.5K for repair.

I got the camera for $220 ( 9.5 K approximately), so do i go ahead and get it repaired and use it or get it repaired and sell it and go for a higher configuration? Please suggest?

Also which are the best digicams available in market under 15K? Pics and model numbers would really help...Thanks

thats because your 5mp image is being squished to 500x390.. its not actually being converted to that.

V16,

As Akshay1234 mentioned, it has something to do with how your image is being reduced.

I'm not sure whether you used a program to reduce the image and then uploaded it, or uploaded the image and let the TBHP garage reduce it.

Using a program is the better way to go, as it actually "converts" the image using sophisticated methods, rather than some websites which just squish it in a crude way to save itself the trouble and resources.

Here is the 500x390 image (reduced with a program from the larger image u posted (which was 800 x 600 pixels, not 3072x2304 btw))

Looks fine right?

I think the easiest and most convienent way to convert images is by using microsofts image resizer application.
Its a tiny program that once installed shows up in the menu when you right click on any image. You can even select MULTIPLE images and convert them all with 2 clicks. You can even choose the custom output size (500x390 in this case). And it also helps with a little more agressive JPEG compression to reduce filesizes for the net. Check it out.

ps - multi quote - you gotta click the multi-quote button on the first 1 or 2 messages you want to quote, then click "quote" on the last one.

What should I opt for Sony DSC H5 or Canon S3 IS ?

This is to all photography gurus,

I am tired of my compact DSC T10 Cybershot and would like to get some thing SEMI professional . What would you suggest I choose . What I have read from different reviews about canon is its awesome build quality and crisp clear images where as the opinions of Sony is not equally clear. Some say its built quality is very good and some say otherwise. Whats your personal choice ? My needs are.
1.Service
2.Clear Menus
3.Ruggedness
I am not so great about guaging pic. quality but since I am going to shell some moollahs for this I want a good picture quality too. Please Advise.

I would suggest the S3 IS any day. Better picture quality and video.

Also I found panasonic to be good. the latest one is:
