I though we had handycam's for video recordings.DSLR with video mode , thats new to me now.

If you read my post carefully i am not suggesting anyone to compare a DSLR with S5IS. I was just mentioning the reason why i got S5IS instead of D40 , and i havent stated anywhere that i am intrested purely in still photography.

One more sample.... This is a crappy pic and also i have done some PS job. Definitely colour was not this rich straight from camera...

BTW the toki "tank" 124 has arrived. The build quality is better than the canon 100 macro lens. The zoom/focus operation is butter smooth. Havent extensively used it yet. Shot few pics indoor. First impression, colours are impressive. And could spot some CA.

This blue was not this blue to naked eye. Shot at 12mm,f/4. Felt the DOF is pretty good for such a wide lens.

Samurai, These pics are sample for respective lens. Please dont move them from here.... we are trying hard to lure some people to slr

@mail4ajo: If you are on a budget go for the S3 IS or if you can stretch you budget a little the Canon S5 IS (awesome value for money camera).
A very tough model to beat in the super-zoom category by any other brand.

heavy_footji, before calling his commetnt as crap, please check your facts. Kodak P880 is what is known as a near-SLR camera. It offers many features commonly seen in a dSLR, like RAW mode, 8MP, etc.

thankyou for clarifying I take your word for it.

I saw some reviews of the P880 where it was categorized as a entry level DSLR
Kodak P880 dSLR Digital Camera : Specs, reviews and prices., but now i can see why its not a SLR. Why does not any company make a DSLR which can also take videos? is it due to a technical limitation ?

Most of the DSLRs do not offer Live View on their LCDs, unlike P&S cameras. Some of the DSLRs do offer a live view, but I think the quality of the Live View is not very good.

DSLR cameras are meant for more serious photography which is why they concentrate on photography specific features. This is true even with P&S cameras. The video quality of most of the P&S cameras are not very good (when compared to a video camera). Some of them have time limitations on recording, some of them have size limitations on recording.

Can the manufacturers put both (high quality photo and high quality video) into a single equipment. Probably they can, but may not choose to do so from a business perspective.

Just my 2 cents!

I see it is not your fault. The reviewer in that link is completely clueless about what makes a dSLR. That's one major downside of world wide web, anybody can publish a professional looking review, no knowledge required.

Not just video, until recently none of the SLRs could even frame the photo on the LCD. With Olympus E-330 onwards that has changed, now even Canon/Nikon dSLRs are providing live view. Even video may happen in future.

To understand this, refer Wikepedia or HowStuffWorks.
