Deb, i don't think you get the same price with B&W. you get the same price or a little lower for grey ( w b/w) and if he is getting with B&W then i think its a good deal. I got my Nikon D40X without B/W recently for about 28K here in India.

Just remember any product above 25K is custom chargeable.

Well Avi, many dealers now quote around 27k/32k price for the D40x here. The first is the gray market price whereas the second one is 'with the B&W' price I would presume.

In any case even if he manages to save some 500 or even 1000 odd rupees I would say it is not worth buying abroad. Since, as you pointed out anything over 25k is custom chargeable and second even the B&W procured in the country of purchase may not be valid here. So that will effectively make it a gray market piece here.

@Zappo: There was a huge price cut on D40X only a week or two ago. Its 28k with bill and warranty now with the 18-55 kit lens.

I guess that will apply for all digital cameras since customs duty has been removed for all still cameras.

This price drop is not because of customs duty reduction. Its a Nikon price drop or so was I told by the photo circle dude. So prices might drop further.

Guys, i am contemplating buying a tele-photo lens for my Nikon D40X. I have the kit lens ( 18-55mm). Should i consider 55mm-200mm or 300mm and which brands are good ( links would be helpful) and approximate pricing.

I am on a pretty lean budget

Go for sigma 70-300mm. Its a great value for money. Its not a great lens, but for its VFM it really makes sense for somebody on a budget.

Thanks tsk, Will this suffice as an all round lens? i mean i don't want to interchange the lens too often. Also, what's it approx pricing and any linky would be helpful

A good all round lens is the Sigma 18-200. If you can afford more than the OS version has image stabilization.
The 70-300 is only for telephoto.
There is a tamron 18-250 also which has longer reach.

If you want a nice expensive all around lens then the nikon 18-200VR is there
