I'm about to buy my first camera. I want something small that I can carry with me all the time but at the same time it should be able to take good quality pictures. I want suggestions from you guys about which one I should go for and where I can get it for a good price. The 2 cameras that I have in mind are the Sony W55 & the Fuji F50fd. I know I can get the Sony at a lot of places in Bombay but where can I get the Fuji? Any advise and suggestions are most welcome!

I would suggest you get the Fuji. Really good bang for the buck. The F31FD, though older and 6MP has a better sensor

Thanks. Where can I get it here? Fuji doesnt seem to be too popular here nor do they have any official dealer. Is there a website I can buy it from?

Try JJ Mehta or any of the other known retailers, Bombay members will tell you more about the better shops.
the F50FD or F31FD should be available now.

Thanks. I know about JJ Mehta but they don't have that camera on their website. I guess I'll have to call them and find out if they can get me those camera's.

I need help/ tips for shooting under low light. I have a S5IS and am not getting good results.

Mostly pictures in the evening and night are not coming out as expected.

You are probably using the wrong ISO setting. What setting do you use at night?

There are 2 problems with this shot
1. Camera shake
You have a focal length of 36.6mm which in 35mm terms would come to around 200mm.
you need a shutter speed of 1/200sec. Since you have IS, you can do well with 1/50 sec shutter speed. Anything slower you need a tripod. In this shot you have 1/8s shutter speed
2. Exposure problem.
This shot is way way underexposed. You need to have an exposure time of atleast 2-3 seconds at these lighting conditions to get a shot, and for that you need a tripod.

For night landscapes, you need to
1. Turn off the flash
2. Sec camera to aperture priority and open the lens about F4(Aperture) and let the camera decide the exposure time
3. Make sure IS is turned off and you use a tripod
4. An example shot I am posting below

This was shot at aperture F/8.0 with camera chosen 25s shutter time.
Needless to say I needed a tripod ISO 200 was used. I suggest you use ISO 100 or ISO 80. I have a DSLR and I can easily take clean shots even at ISO 800, and pretty clean ones at ISO 1600, but in case of a P&S its best to have the smallest ISO possible

another thing, you may find that the slowest shutter speed in your camera may be less than needed. In this case you need to open Aperture wider(Smaller number eg F2.8) means a wider aperture.

Ok, after reading many reviews and deliberations, I got the EF 70-300mm F4-4.5 IS USM lens. Its a USA model and got it from BH photo for USD 549 plus shipping with one year USA warranty. It was a tough decision against the 70-200mm F4 L series. I believe I have made the right decision. As always the Value for money factor pulled in.

Now how do I test this lens for any defects? This lens had some issues in the initial batch and mine is not from that batch. I need to check it fast before I reach India. Please help.
