Samurai, look for F31FD or something, they had the old 6MP sensor which was the best of the lot.
If you are a sucker for ImageQ, then look no further than Fuji. That sensor is unbeatable in P&S world.

F31FD is great, but I can't compromise on the wide angle or even IS. That way F100fd has even bigger sensor.

But F100FD has more megapixels, double the number
But inspite of that, expect the F100FD to be better than all ultra compact cameras when it comes to IQ.
If you can compromize on size... Look at this. Woweee

That's too big, I could as well use E-3 instead of that.

Anyway, I am leaning towards this: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX35 Review

But, is it available in India?

That's not bad either, although much thicker than FX35.

Hey this thread is full of high/Mid end stuff. I am looking for a basic P&S. I looked around a bit and found Sony W120 meeting most of my expectations. All I expect is

1.A small camera so that it can be carried around in pocket.
2.Not a high Mpx camera. something around 7MegaPixel is all I need.
3.Decent battery life
4.Easy to use features, and good auto settings. I dont want to fiddle with the settings to get a good picture under different conditions. So the auto mode should be doing most of the job for me.

So I just need a basic P&S which gives a decent quality. I am looking to source it from USofA. As far as I could see, the sony w120 fits my bill perfectly. Are there any shortcomings of the sony w120(Like low battery life, noise in image etc)?? Any suggestions for other competing models??

TZ5 is available in grey. However with warranty, I'm not sure.

Thanks ROC, is ebay reliable? they are giving warranty (manufacturer warranty may be). They are having high ratings on ebay and some of the buyers have actually bought TZ5. Do you know how good are they (ebay seller?). i think it is better to buy with some type of warranty.

What do you guys think of the Nikon P80. 18X optical zoom with VR and full manual control. I was planning on the S5 IS but i'm hearing many people are having problems with the camera. This is much smaller and has 18x compared to the canon's 12X.

Any Superzoom is just bad news, but camera makers make them because people will buy anything with a big zoom. People who know photography go the other way, wide angle is way more useful than zoom.

That is why I won't consider any P&S which doesn't have at least 28mm wide lens. The Lumix FX35 interests me because of 25mm wide.

Its hard to beat canon cameras in this segment. They are really good value for money. It should be better than a Sony. Fujifilm is better than canon in terms of image quality. But canon India service is good. Check out the powershot A series. I have the A530 and its quite nice (A580 is the latest).
