Yup. My sister has a canon. It was pretty good, but then it was a bit too bulky for my liking. I am looking for something that I could slide into my pocket.

I use a 870IS. check it out. it has a 28mm lens, a 3" LCD screen and useable IS and it fits in my shirt pocket.

Otherwise the Casio ExSlims, Panny FX100 or Oly FE290 are also options.

I use Fujifilm S7000 Fuji FinePix S7000 Digital Camera Review: Intro and Highlights from last 4 years. Its really great one after clicking lakhs of photos and printing thousands among them after sorting out best cliks.

From last 1 year my Fuji Camera has developed CCd error, last week I gave that for service in National market area to one known shop who has very well experience in servicing.

Now after some reasearch I have decided to buy fujiFilm because of that picture qualitty I am getting from it. I have realized it comes up with best photo quality.

My pick would be Fuji 8100 fd which has wide angle better ZOOM ability. It would cost 15,000/- in India I feel. Fujifilm FinePix S8100fd Digital Camera - Preview - The Imaging Resource! and also in ebay you can find more details about thsi camera.

In India If you need best service go for Canoon. I don't care for service and I plan to use my cams for 3 years. so I prefer Fuji over Canoon. for me its Fuji - Nikon - Canoon.

3 weeks back I have baught panasonic TZ3 for 12,500/- (2gb memory, camara case) which has wide angle 10x zoom and it comes with Leica lens. Its quiet good for the deal I got.

Welcome to digitalvisionen.de - the art of digital photography by Dirk Rotermundt this url i am impressed about S7000 camera.

Regards,

Ravi.

Ravi.

would agree with ravi. My fuji S5200 has been amazing for the last few years. Have not had any problems and the pictures come out very well. What I like best is the processing time is low even using a flash.

Thank you guys! But i'm in even more confusion now! A shop in Trivandrum has given a quote of 33k (with B & W) for the 400D. Upon asking about the lens, they said its 18-55.

Canon India site mentions three models for the 400D-
1) EOS 400D Kit II 17-85 for 60k.
2) EOS 400D 18- 85 mm IS for 42k.
3) EOS 400D EFS 18- 55 for 39k.

As per the posts above, i think its the 18-85 IS thats available in Bangalore for 36k. Is it worth getting it at 36k (without B&W) compared to 33k for 18-55 (with B & W)?

What are the advantages of 18-85 IS over 18-55?

I'm getting more and more confused with this, as I'm totally ignorant of DSLRs. Please help.

My friend bought the 400D + 18-55mm for 31k with B&W here in TVM. And does Canon make 18-85 IS ? It must be 18-55 / 18-55 IS or 17-85 IS.

I have been inquiring for the Panasonic TZ5 for a friend. Seems like no one in Bangalore has it. Checked out at fotocircle and RK photoguide. Anyone else in Bangalore who stocks Pannys?

The 18-55IS is a much better lens than the 18-55. It is much sharper, and gives better image quality.
You can look at the technical reviews(which measure MTF, color accuracy, CA, contrast etc.,)

Sony DSLR-200K

I've been following this thread closely for the past few months and I'm highly impressed by the amount of information present on Cameras in an Automobile forum!

I've used film SLR's when I was younger - my dad's Canon and Pentax (I don't remember the model numbers for these off-hand, though I do believe he still has them in India - maybe be mistaken though).

For the past few years I've played around with a number of P&S cameras from Sony, Casio, Nikon & Samsung but now it's time to go in for my first DSLR.

I've read reviews and tried out demo pieces (some in not so nice condition) of the Canon (EOS 40D Digital, EOS Rebel XSi), Nikon (D200, D80, D60, D40), Olympus (E-420, EVOLT E-510), Sony (DSLR-A350K, DSLR-A200K) - a variety of lens configurations in different stores. Unfortunately, I couldn't try out any from Pentax (the K20D or even the older K10D).

Now, all these cameras are very good, and I wish I can buy one someday - I'd started feeling very close to the Canon EOS Rebel XSi, the Nikon D80, the Olympus E-520 (loved the E-3 too but out of price-range) and the Pentax K20D - even dreamt of starting my own little lens collection.

However, currently my wife's getting a very good deal on the Sony DSLR-A200K - so thats the one we're buying.
The deal works out in favour of the Sony, even if I compare it with the tinny E-420 from Olympus, it's unbeatable.
The camera is available at Best Buy for $500, and due to discounts we're getting it for $350, which I think is an awesome price for a brand new entry level DSLR.
It beats the Canon PowerShot G9, S5 IS, and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H50, DSC-H10.

The Sony's also available with a 75-300mm lens (packaged as DSLR-A200W), but the deal's off on that one, which isn't a big problem due to a wide range of Alpha mount lenses available. Ebay has no dearth of these lenses, and I have no issues going in for a 2nd hand one.

I'm aware the camera is strictly entry level one.
The kit lens is a 18-70mm, which according to reviews does a decent job. Any recommendations on an equivalent 75-300mm lens? Even a 55-200mm lens would be decent ...

Thanks!

One again thanks guys. But, once more question.

Canon 450D with the same lens kit seems to be only a little more than the 400D. Is it worth it? Reviews suggest its a newer model with improvements from the 400D. However, is it a bit too much of equipment for a beginner?

Advait, if a deal is too good to be true...

The catch is A200, it is a sorry little camera, don't start your dSLR initiation with that.

Here is a good comparison with other cameras: Sony Alpha DSLR-A200 review Cameralabs verdict

I would take cameralabs reviews with a bucketload of salt.
dpreview is a better site.
That said, A200 is indeed a "not so good" camera, but I won't call it a sorry little camera
