The R1 was an excellent camera in its time. A very high quality lens. However the lack of an optical viewfinder was a bit of a pain.

I am planning to buy a new camera and have no knowledge about the technicalities of it.

Should I go for High end Digital or DSLR.

How does these camera stands:

Olympus Camedia SP-570UZ Digital SLR Camera ~¥ 39,670
Nikon Coolpix P80 ~¥ 36,097

BTW I will picking it from Japan. Does it makes any sense to buy it from there?

What kind of photography you want to do with your camera?

No Professional Photography, I just need a camera with best photo quality and maximum photo options. With some extra zoom.

Just for point and shoot.

BTW I do want to learn the professional photography a bit.

Makes a LOT of sense if you are able to spot an offer - will need you to carry model numbers, Indian and US prices in your head while browsing shops. Sometimes, you can spot an offer cheaper than US, which is generally the cheapest anywhere.

The best deals are either in Tokyo/Akihabara or Osaka/Den-den Town, or at very large outlets such as Bic Camera. Like in US, there are deals on specific models. If you want good prices on specific models, don't be in a hurry.

An alternate channel would be online sales - but you will need a J colleague to negotiate through that maze.

I would recommend you to go for a simple point and shoot camera at this moment. Nikon is good stuff. You could also look at the Canon Powershot series or IXUS series. You can familiarise yourself with this camera for sometime and later decide on upgrading to a DSLR.

Depends on how much zoom.
The Fuji 100S is a good cam, among the best P&S in the market, though a little expensive.
With a strong Yen, do your calculations before purchasing.

How does one know the sensor size. Say for example the Canon S5 IS and the Nikon P80.

Most probably I will walk down to all shops in Akihabara. kakaku.com is what I am looking at now.

I have already used Nikon Coolpix 2100, I think its to upgrade to DSLR, isn't it?
I am more inclined for Nikon. My Nikon coolpix 2100(now obsolete) gives me very good results.

"DABURUZUMUKITTO" Hadn't heard that from a long time!

I don't remember the URLs, but I have seen my J colleagues using some of the more colorful sites specific to camera, pasocon dospara and jampara, etc.

Digital Camera Repairshop in Noida/ South Central Delhi

Guys,

My son has bashed up my camera and it refuses to work. The camera is Canon Powershot 550. When switched on it reports a " lens error" and asks to be switched on again. The lens does not retract on its own and there is a ghar ghar sound.

My camera is without warranty. Can some one tell me about a reasonable digital camera repair shop in Noida/ South Delhi where I can have it fixed?

I think Nehru Place is a place where you can try. Though am not sure about the same

Go to any canon showroom and tell them to repair.
