Yup, the prices are very attractive. I'd lean towards the Canon, Nikon or the Panasonic that @gopz suggested.

I doubt if the cameras are Made in J (likely to be costlier, but you never know) - check the sticker. The Japanese are service conscious, and they always give b&w. I have gone back after 2 years with the original b&w, and there was not even a murmur even though the warranty had expired a while back. When I explained I was from India, they just replaced the piece and said they will take care of the repair / replacement - don't know how they do that.

Xerox the cash memo, though, those thermal slips don't retain imprint for long. They seldom forget to stamp the warranty card, but check; they might also put a shop sticker on the warranty card.

I think I'm going to get the FZ-28 from US. The nikon P80 reviews says it's a slow performer and battery life ain't that great either.

The Panny now has the same wide angle range, bigger LCD display and HD video recording. Don't think there is any flaw in that camera other than the heavy noise reduction sometimes. Even this is not a problem as it allows you to shoot in RAW.

Hi gopz,

I am still learning to use this s8100fd camera first impression Its same or bit less performer compared to my my 4+ years old S7000 Fji digi cam.

I have already captured 500+ clicks mostly in auto mode onething it has really excellant zoom but with auto mode picture quality is not that great.

Camera to PC connectivity is slow.

I guess one can click almost 500 clicks for full charge of good battery like eneloop R6.

I have loaded few photos in my travelogue section of wonderla taken from this camera.

I have baught this camera because S100fs was way too costly like 28,000/- so gave up since I couldnot afford with my tough finance situation.

If we work out better and use it properly with right mannual settings it would give better result.

Over all its good camera but cant match quality of what similar cameras offer 4 years back!

4+ years back I paid rs. 35,000/- for fuji S7000 while now similar camera come at rs. 14,000/- so quality has come down as well :(

Regards,

Ravi.

Find out the price of Olympus SP570UZ, Panasonic FZ28 and Fuji S100fs also, and use this site to compare them and decide: Digital Camera Reviews and News: Digital Photography Review: Forums, Glossary, FAQ

Good luck!
Yes, all made in japan, with bill and international warranty for most of the brand.

In most of the site, price are bit less but they do not give that 10% discount for custom free shops etc.

Thats great, and in that case I think you should buy the Panasonic Lumix FZ28 (unless it is too expensive)!

Really Cheap Point & Shoot?

I got an offer leaflet with my credit card bill today. It shows a Polaroid 8MP digital camera for Rs. 4500/- (original MRP Rs. 13500/-). No model number is mentioned, but the features are 3x optical/ 4x digital zoom, 3" TFT LCD display, 16MB internal memory etc. Good buy?

I'm looking for a really cheap digicam to give my mom. Any other suggestions are also welcome.

It seems to be a good deal, however if possible you can call them up and get the model number.

Either ways, the specs look great for an 8MP branded cam with B&W.

For 4500 with B&W, I think its a good deal.

Here is a review: Polaroid - i834 digital camera Review - "great little camera" - Viewpoints

It definitely is NOT like Sony Xplod stuff in your talk.

@nitrous: Can you please justify why you feel so?

Guys,

I am in a hunt for Digital camera. Shorlty one of my cousins is flying from Dubai, he's advised me to visit Jumbo Electronics Company Dubai UAE - the largest distributor of consumer electronics and technology products in Dubai and in all over UAE ( United Arab Emirates )
Do you think having it from Dubai will be cheaper and of better quality, if yes, is there any other site which has the best rates from Dubai ? Below are the approx price for the models that I shorlisted :

1) Fujifilm S8100 FD Price is 1599/- Dhs. Approx around 18550/- INR
2) Nikon P 80 Price is 1999/- Dhs. Approx around 23200/- INR
3) Panasonic F – 18 the Price is 1899/- Dhs. Approx around 22030/- INR

What will be the approx. price for these here with decent service backup ? I am located in delhi. And do mention if there are other models of similar range.

Pls. advise

Thanks,
Tarun.

I will pick Fuji 8100fd from the list you have. Its not bad camera at all. I still need to learn how to use it for best results, but I can see its good for what it is able to produce.

If you have budget try Fuji s100fs which would be around 28,000rs which is excellant camera. Panasonic F18 is also good one, it would give you as it is photos although it won't give you pics with rich colors/clarity like fuji.

Regards,

Ravi.

i'd choose Panasonic FZ18. you dont have to take my word for it. there are many reviews/comparizons on the net. do your research before you buy. Nikon P80 reviews look bad compared to the other two here.

also look at this: Flickr: Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ18
