in fact i love the design of plantronics 510, which has most of the bulk close to the skull, hence less strain on ears. dunno why they changed it in 520.

itech clip will not work because i intend to use it for active use. there are good stereo sets too, but i will think of them only if they are good in every other aspect that i need.

Jawbone is more about the style than substance. though it doesnt do what it does bad in anyways. The customer;s have never complained as you can see from the reviews.

I did felt like that initially. But, after experimenting with one after another, I found one that fits perfect to the tee. I even bought extra pair of them.

But, I have a complaint that the clips get broke off easily even for a small pressure.

I did use plantronics too...but Jawbone beats it easily...

Hi folks,

Can anyone enlighten me on the rule for bluetooth headsets while driving in India? Do they encompass bluetooth car kits as well? (though the rule is not followed here in Siliguri - the cops are catching up slowly).

I use a Sony Ericsson HBH-610a for my headset, thought I don't wear it all the time; Only put it when I receive a call.

I was thinking of going for a bluetooth car kit, something like the Sony Ericsson HCB 120b

how to make music (well, audiobooks, hence i don't need stereo) route to the bluetooth headset. the config is plantronics 520 + sony W810i.

internet forums say the player has to be bluetooth compatible. does anybody know how to do it, or if there is a third party player that i can install?

All audio in the handset is routed to (or from, for mic) the Headset, as long as the handset and the BT headset is implementing the Headset profile of the Bluetooth standard. This is true for any old BT headset so far. This means that any media player, built-in or 3rd party, will play mono through the headset.

The stereo headsets use a different profile - A2DP.

I wouldn't disbelieve that. The world of BT is mysterious - nothing works as expected many times. I have had problems with BT dongles, handsets and headsets for the last 6 years (I might have tested more than 30 devices so far), and the problems do not seem to go away. A dongle will work with Mac, but not with Windows, and another vice versa. Sometimes a dongle will work nicely on the PC with one handset, but never with another (both Nokia!!!). Very dicey. In our office we have a device (not a headset or handset) that couples with a PDA - I have to switch off BT on my N70 handset if I am anywhere near, otherwise the blessed thing refuses to recognize the PDA.

Between handsets and headsets, it is usually the sequence of set-up that matters. Miss a step and gone, it will not work for you. I had that experience with Jabra and N70, and it took a lot of tries before I figured out where I was going wrong. Since headsets don't have a UI, they rely on timing, action sequence and correct user action.

By design, BT "Headset" profile, if implemented the standard way in the handset, carries all mono audio to/from the headset. But the key is, it will work that way ONLY WHEN the devices are paired. Actually it is not the problem of the data transport module, the issue is with the "pairing" module.
