The 2nd link discusses an entirely different subject - "WHY to mask number plates when posting on Team BHP".

This thread is apparently about "HOW to mask your number plate from cameras clicked by law enforcement (and every body else)."

Yes.. its different from the other threads. However, I don't think this is very useful in India.. mainly becoz the number plate gets blocked only in case a flash is used while taking pics.

agree: It is absolutely useless. It might just save time masking number plates while posting on TBHP.

I haven't checked your link, but I have used a similar product (gift from my boss!) and can confirm it works. Both the bos and I checked it out on different types of cameras and we didn't get fined on any of those occassions.

We took care not to use it too often on the same road, though..I'm sure the cops won't be amused when they find the same Lumina or Maserati popping up on their cameras with blank license plates repeatedly!

Useful when you're in a hurry for some reason, though!

In India, the "speed guns" that traffic policemen use are of RADAR type, and i've never seen any flash with them...basically these are not digital camera types.
So masking is useless IMO,
Unless you mask your entire car using stealth technology :)

if its one of those spray on your license plates things, i can tell you it does not work.
have tried it and at best it might partially distort you number plates.
not enough to fool American or European cameras.
not sure bout the dubai ones as i havent tried it there.

buy the valentine 1, radar detector. best investment as not only does it detect cameras, it only tells you where a cop is hiding with his radar gun :)

Which is what it is meant to do, I guess. As long as your license plates are not visible or are do not carry clear registration details, they will not charge you.

wish I had something for the occasioanl mad rush to office!

5th gear once tested a device which could knock out most speed camera devices including the radars. The operator would get an error when checking the speed. It was illegal to use but I do not think the average traffic cop would know how to find you was using one.
