The Headphones Thread

On the lookout for a nice headphone solution.
Budget is 100$ including shipping.

I have been recommended the Sony MDR-V6 headphones many times over by a very senior friend of mine. (He found them to be better that his Senn, Bayer, Shure.)

Amazon.com: Sony MDR-V6 Monitor Series Headphones with CCAW Voice Coil: Electronics

Old is Gold design philosophy. Have read very very encouraging reviews of it on the net also.

Anybody or friend having any experience with these?

Also, found these in the budget. Any reviews on this?

Amazon.com: Audio Technica ATHM40FS Precision Extended Response Monitor Headphones: Electronics

Thanks!

I second the MS-1. Very good cans. Got it within a week after ordering it, no customs or watever.....

Because I dont see the MDR's listed there. Dont know why.
My brother in US told me that most of the recording studios and DJ's during his time used nothing but these.

His pair has stood the test of times. Currently going strong in it's 11th or so year since purchase.

Reading the customer reviews on Amazon and some other sites confirm that these are some durable cans with good flat response within my budget of 100$ shipped.

End of the day, you are a veteran at the audio scene yourself and I will gladly consider whatever suggestions you have instead.

Didn't want to start a new thread,so can anyone let me know which earphone(go inside ear-canel types) will be best for iPod?Price range is max 100$ [Lesser the better].Another thing, are these type of phones not good for the health of the ears ? I mean will there be any issue like hearing loss and all? If it's so what else I can go for ?I don't want the big headphone(already have one Sony MDR 180) as i want it convenient to carry along.
BTW, have experience with those SE walkman in-ear buds type phones and I found the audio quality to be quite ok.So I was thinking ab out getting something like that which will be of better quality.

What headphone are you planning to get? Don't tell me that MDR V6... its complete and utter crap. I'm not sure what this friend of yours listens to. It has severely bloated boomy bass at the bottom end and a very tinny high end. Definitely not worth even 10$ in my book.

The only sony headphones worth mentioning are the SA5000 and the Qualia. Neither are in your budget. In 100$, there's nothing that comes close to the musicality of the Alessandro MS-1 that I suggested earlier. Its a custom grado design and as someone said its much better than the SR60 and SR80. They ship to india as well for no extra cost.

The other option is a Sennheiser HD485. B&H Photo Video will ship to India. However the shipping rates are quite steep. However in the end these are an inferior option to the Alessandro. The only sennheisers I love are the HD650/600/580. Had the HD580 earlier, now I've upgraded to the 650 which is a whole lot better.
