Radio Alarm

Never seen a good Radio Alarm in India that is below the 5K price range. I am aware of JBL's On Time, Genius 800, Bose Wave, Altec Lansing IM800 that act as iPod docks and Radio Alarms. But all these models seem to be above 12K range.

Is there anything in the 5K range out there ? There used to be Sony before but when enquired in Sony World it is no more being sold in India.

I think your best option would be to pick one from US. Or, request somebody who is traveling to bring one. You should get decent pieces for approx 20 USD (I picked mine, couple of years back, from BestBuy).

Looking on internet websites, it seems we can buy one online and ship it from US via UPS or DHL. That comes to around 8K w/ $99 as cost of Radio Alarm and apprx $100 as shipping. With iPod docks to boot.

But still turns out cheaper than the desi ones.

I wonder if Philips sells any in India

The US ones will work in 60HZ and our power supply is 50 HZ. This may lead to error in the clock.

Philips has one. I had seen a advt for it a few months ago and on enquiry at the philips arena shop, they had said they would be getting stock soon and they'll call me up when they get it.

It's been 6 months now. No news.

As far as I know you can even set the alarm on to your mobile phones with the blutooth/handsfree attached to it. If you select the alarm tone as radio, then it does play the radio. Is this what you are looking for???

n_aditya, the Bose Wave something has the Radio Alarm function as well but costs 30K. Denon too recently launched something like that for 40K.

amtak, am talking of a standalone Radio alarm. Would not mind if it has an iPod dock as well like JBL/Bose etc but gotta be a lot cheaper though. Something like this would be best though
Sony India : Radio

Philips used to have one. A low slung thing with perforations on the top cover for the sound to come out. The oval shaped display on the sliding front was the clock. I do not know if they still sell it. I had this as long as I was in Mumbai. Used to get up with the morning news at 7am or so. I do not recall the price now but it was definitely below 5k at that time.

yes . this is definitely possible.

A cheap and reliable solution to your query lurker. Just ensure you set the right station or it might lull you to deeper sleep.

well first I used to do that but they are not dependable, both my mobiles have alarms that are non-functional. It's not a long-term solution.

Secondly this is for someone who has specifically asked for a Radio Alarm.

So if Philips is also out-of-stock then is this the best solution out there ?

I got the one by Sony from US, it worked perfectly there but never worked in India at all... The time shown always lagged behind IST sometimes showing 1-2 hr differences.

Getting it to every sony center in Chennai gave the same response. These dont work well in India.

Unable to probe further, it lies unused at home hoping someday help will come.
