Also, has anyone been successful in setting up Hotmail on it?

You can find the most number of them in Gaffar Market.

Had tried Apollo with MSN before, worked well for me. Apollo supports MSN, AIM, .MAC and ICQ. Apollo is probably not under active development now. MobileChat is the other option(not tried it myself), support is whatever Apollo does, plus GoogleTalk. Both are available through the installer, probably you will have to turn on community sources.

you need the POP settings for hot mail but the easiest would be to fwd all hotmail e-mail to a gmail acctnt and it works like a charm.

As you are in Delhi you can also try this site iPhone Nirvana - Buy your unlocked iPhone in India - Home

They sell phones and they are located in Delhi so you can pick up your phone from them with cash payment. I have a friend who got his phone from them and he had no problem. Also they offer support if new updates come out. Only drawback is the cost but it will give you some peace of mind. Also they test it after unlocking it and you can also do it before taking hand to hand delivery.

Do inform of your final purchase decision and reason for it.
Cheers.

Finally moved to 1.1.2. Instructions from Hack the iPhone - How to update to 1.1.2 firmware and unlock it on OS X (easy method - Page 1) . Reason I had to move was that some of the SMSs from Airtel, and other service providers were being received as gibberish. 1.1.2 seems to have a fix for that.

Well no. Cause its a technique to upgrade previous versions ,ie 1.0.2 and 1.1.1, to 1.1.2 and still use other SIMs.

The factory configured 1.1.2 is still under the process of being unlocked by various hackers. At least thats what my information is.
If any body has updated information please post the same quickly. I got a 4.02.13_G (aka 1.1.2) landing in Mumbai day after tomorrow. I still have not found a technique to unlock it online or in the market.

Instead, you can just get a fix for it from the community source. It will re-write your 1.1.1 sms application with that of 1.1.2, hence the gibberish messages will be properly displayed. I havent seen anything that major for 1.1.2 over 1.1.1.
