I bought the iPhone for $500 - then around INR21k. (2G). I will not pay any more for a phone - unless it can take me to the Moon and back!!

Thats good now do you sometimes wonder why you payed 500$ for a 2G phone ? What you required was any phone with WiFi access so that you can install fring .. Now you would be happy to know that Manmohan Singh unveiled 3G ( UMTS network ) and it's already being rolled out in India.

That was exactly my point , People in other countries already were antagonized by this. For good 2 years iPhone did not had 3G and users were unable to use software requiring data access at high rates and here I am talking of major markets where 3G was available since 2002. Case of India is little different.

How about other multimedia functionality , Dvix playback another 20$ download ?
Camera quality ? Video recording what do you do for that on 500$ iphone ?

It does not give me any pleasure to break it that even those who have 3G Iphone wont be able to use video telephony while in 3G network because iPhone does not have it.

Hey Amit, how do I see the iPhone "javascript" code? I just opened up one sample app from the apple dev site, and I saw something like this -

#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>

int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {
NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init];
UIApplicationMain(argc, argv, nil, nil);
[pool release];
return 0;
}

Is that Javascript?

Also, you are saying that the complete dev kit is Javascript right?

No no objective C ,
did I say whole is JS ?.. let me check ..
sort of mix up earlier in back to back mails. What I meant was JS hooks are enabled by webkit making rendering very good on iPhone and that is key strength of iPhone where it is ahead of others..so browser and also widgets which look like native apps are quite good
and not in terms of phone features is what I meant.
So as i said somewhere engineering effort for phone is what apple needs.

I meant this is what is real strength of iPhone
iPhone Widget List - The Master List of iPhone Widgets and iPhone Applications

while explaining to some one that though it looks like native how it is JS probably some confusion.

Perhaps I was not in right mind and u know due to what....and should sleep ;-)

pps: I dont claim that the iPhone is the best and only phone in the world. I use other phones too. But it seems that people have no problem in deeming it the worst without even looking at one.
As you can see from my earlier posts I never denied due credit to iPhone
it's strength is web interface and busniess model of App store but thats all

Read the two articles now as myopic as they can be the author does not understand phones , Can he now explain why iPhone still does not sell in
numbers it should be selling despite initial dream launch.

And the Gem is
"Today, after Windows and Macintosh, the iPhone is the third most important development platform. " Development platform does not just mean GUI development

Does he even know which platform serves as test beds for almost all stacks , codecs , servers etc and provides maximum developer tools and is available on most number of processors ranging from ARM to mainframes and has productivity of 3000 lines of code per day on kernel.org

OK last post for the today .. Bye.

Help

Vibration mode has suddenly stopped working on my 2g iPhone(2.1)
The phone has not been dropped so I am not sure if the problem is hardware or software.
Any solutions?
Incase of hardware problem, does apple has a service center in Mumbai?

The 2g will not be in warranty for sure.
The best option is to restart and try again.
Or else reinstall a firmware, jailbreak and unlock it and test.
If the problem persists, get it checked with some apple store ( am sure there must be one) but you will be charged for it.

Have tried restarting several times.

Is there a simple way to reinstall firmware as I will have to add all my apps and data contacts back?!

So i upgraded the software and that didn't solve the vibration problem.
Sent the phone for repair, surprisingly got a call from the chap that the vibrations working fine no need for repair! Got the phone back and the vibration worked fine for a day.
Today again it has gone off. Restarted and rebotted it several times but no luck.
Has anyone had a problem or have a resolution??

There aint any other solution.
Try the silent button the left.
That might be stuck.
If not , tell the repair guy to check as it works sometimes and doesnt the other.

Ok here is a solution, i googled.
Take the iPhone and hold it like a knife and karate chop both the side on your bed or pillow....It worked !!

This is just temporary tho I cant see myself doing this a few times everyday !
