This is incorrect, Apple can restrict warranty service to the original country of purchase. See their terms and conditions: https://www.apple.com/legal/warranty...cument-us.html

They “may” restrict. Probably the services that are not available in India with respect to warranty can’t be availed but since I’ve got my device replaced, I’ve had zero issues dealing with them. The restriction would be for the iPhone’s that have Apple care+ with theft as I don’t see that available in India.

I even called Apple Support and they verified that you can get the warranty but one should have the original bill whereas the service center didn’t even asked for. The important thing here would be the device should be unlocked to use with any carrier.

Rest, to each his own.

Dear Abhishek,

How can we find out whether a device is unlocked or not ? Sorry to be naive, but i was not aware of this carrier locking thing.

I am sharing my experience on global warranties. I got the iPhone XR and the Apple Watch Series 4 from US, both with AppleCare. My phone had a cracked screen in Abu Dhabi on a work trip and it got replaced as it was within the 2 year warranty period.

Same for the Apple Watch. I cracked my screen here in Bangalore towards the fag end of the AppleCare period and the watch was replaced under warranty for me.

No bill was asked for in both situations. They have the complete history associated with the device serial number.

2. Yes, previous generation iPhones will drop in price once the new series is launched. I have a feeling the price will not dip by much considering the lower end iPhone models will have the same chipset as the current iPhone 13 models
This is actually not true. iPhones have global warranty for a while now.

Apple iPhones purchased abroad will now get warranty support in India

This is true for AppleCare but not the warranty which comes with the product.

This is awesome to hear and why I always try to get Apple Care on Apple products I buy. My 2016 Macbook Pro screen failed just before the expiry of my coverage and I basically got a brand new Mac from them which I sold and upgraded to a 2019 16" MBP

Is it possible that post the launch of iphone 14 the prices will come down for 12 and 13 models ?
Australia has some of the most expensive prices for electronics. Any other country you can source it from? I'd recommend US, Singapore or Japan. Yes 12 and 13 series prices are likely to drop.

You can get the status from Settings > General > About > Network Provider Lock or Carrier lock should be "No SIM resctrictions".

When buying iPhone outside India, you should always ask for factory unlocked one hence always get it from either Apple store or trusted store/Amazon.

Here's a snip from Amazon Dubai showing wireless carrier "unlocked":

Read your linked article again, it says at the end ‘Apple may bring int. warranty support to India’.
The terms page I’ve linked is specifically talking about the 1 year limited factory warranty, not Apple Care.

In practice I’m sure they’ll support foreign devices but there is no legal requirement for them to do so as per their terms and conditions.

Yes just read the document again and asked a few friends who have worked at Apple.

There are 3 types of warranty:-

1. 1-year manufacturer warranty provided by Apple. Works globally for most Apple products including iPhone. I have availed it myself for most products - iPhone, iPad, Mac.

2. Apple Care+ plans which cover accidental damage as well and are underwritten by insurance companies and are restricted to whichever geography it is sold. It is handled by Tata AIG in India.

3.Apple Care (now being phased out) which was an extended warranty provided by Apple for manufacturing defects for 2 years after the 1-year warranty. Apple is replacing Apple Care with Apple Care+ slowly across many countries. Apple Care used to work for imported products too as it was an Apple Service.

Hope this is useful.

Re: The iPhone Thread

The pro models look quite tempting and I liked the implementation of pill from them ( I refuse to call it dynamic island, it's a pill).

But Indian pricing is ridiculous, better pick it from dubai or US itself whoever wants to get it.

I was thinking of getting the 14 Plus but then 14 is absolutely similar to 13 and in coming sale 13 is supposed to be at good discount so tilting more towards it. I am used to of 6.7 inch screen of Samsung and have used wife's IPhone 13 to see if I can get used to of 6.1 screen. I think I will.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Folks, who are really looking to upgrade I would say avoid the normal 14 models (comes with A15 bionic) rather go for the pro models which have upgraded chip.

I would say 13 pro models is better than normal iphone 14.

Go ahead and get it without a doubt, there is literally nothing to worry about. a close friend of mine is into the Apple ecosystem and has been getting all Apple devices for his family from all over the world since a decade. Phones, airpods, macbook, watches everything. I know for a fact he has faced a few issues with different devices and never did he face any issue with warranty or apple care plus claims. Once or twice they did ask him for the bill but he clearly said he doesn't have it on him and bought it from outside India and the warranty is still valid.

Get your devices from any place possible where it is cheaper. Earlier there used to be an issue regarding the adapter compatibility but now since it is anyways not included in the box, use your old one or get one from India, there are better ones from other companies on amazon.

Just keep in mind about local laws and the restriction on certain features. For example, UAE has a law against Facetime, so phones sold at the Apple store in UAE doesn't have Facetime. Amazon UAE has euro spec phones all the time, so buy from there. Australia phones are as good as India ones so nothing to fear over there.

Re: The iPhone Thread

iPhone user since 2009. Bought SE model last year April and I see quite a few issues compared to iPhone 3 and 6 which I got from US.

Battery has already degraded quite a bit and some times lags are there which I have never experienced in previous models (personally it is still better than other phones for me).

Could it be because this model is manufactured here? Anybody else having similar experience? If this is the case, I may have to look for imported models or get from US where these warranty issues will be relevant.
