Even I have a developer account, I too can download the IOS5 beta. But there is no way to downgrade back to iOS 4.x, so it is an one-way street.

Apple doesn't make things so easy. They have lots of authentication bureaucracy. Your iPhone will have to be registered as a development phone under my company's corporate account. It is not like loading custom ROM on Android phone. Apple keeps track of every beta software install, linked to the development account and particular phone.

Same rule applies if I write an app and want to directly install on my iPhone. They are control freaks.

I know it Samusan, i actually have access to this but since its official and phone is personal, i have not explored it further.

Few of the boys even took my device when they urgently needed to test some apps on iPhone 4 sometime back, so my handset might already be registered also he he he

Anyways point being, please don't go get some torrent download of beta iOS and try installing, you can land up with some serious headache with your device.

On e whole iOS 5 doesn't impress me all that much. I probably had very high expectations from apple, I don't know. I was expecting a complete overhaul of the typical app centric display that the current OS has. Apart from a few good features, most of the others should've already even included in the earlier versions.

I hope iCloud more than makes up for this.

I have no worries, I have iPad & Android Phone besides wifey has the iPhone 4, so its win win for me

I wish that they keep copying stuff from Android & other systems while retaining the simplicity

Re: The iPhone Thread: Update iOS 5 announced!

I wonder if Apple's iMessage is going to be that useful. With apps such as WhatsApp available cross-platform etc.
I'll be updating to iOS 5 once its able to be JB'd and unlocked for my old 3GS.

My iPhones's contract was actually cancelled by the shopkeeper (in Dubai) and sold to me. Now, if I upgrade my iOS, will my phone get locked or will there be no problems? I have, in fact, not upgraded my OS so far from the factory version fearing a lock. Any insights? (it's an iPhone 4)

You can upgrade. Jailbreak is available, but a tethered one. And there is no need for your iPhone UDID to be added to a dev account too. There is a trick which will bypass the activation.

From what you mentioned, the shopkeeper canceled his contract, means your phone is locked to a carrier. So that means if you are using the same carrier as the shop keeper did, then you can safely upgrade the phone or else you would need to jailbreak + unlock it.
