The MapMyIndia app is in fact sygic app with India Maps. This is top notch. Almost as good as Nokia.

Haven't tried the SatGuide, but have read some good reviews. Also, SatGuide people have been at GPS for a long time, so they are generally pretty good.

Do Note that both of these are PAID APPS.

I cannot find MMI on the app store. Satguide is there though, at Rs 1300/-.
They have separate ones for Ipad and iphone. Am wondering if I download this, will I have to pay separately for the specific app for each device?

Shankar sir
Here you go
sygic & mapmyindia: gps navigation.
This is the name of the app. I bought it straight away after updating to ios6.

I works as good as the maps on n8,also has voice navigation which transmits to Bluetooth devices unlike nokia maps where the voice navigation was of no use.

Hope it helps

Cheers

All of them are great apps; normally paid and a combined cost of Rs3000/- when paid.

There are apps from different segments. I used the PDF Expert and Smart Office 2 and they work great.

+1 to Schoudury. I got it for my Android. Works beautifully.
Though I have a Garmin, I got this because it was being made available for around 1200-1300. Hence I got urged to buy !
The actual price is about 2800-3000.

Works beautifully.

Here is the link to sygic site which would again direct you to app store.

http://www.sygic.com/en/ios

Sygic is the frontend S/W; which for India runs on MMI's map content.

I have successfully downloaded sygic MMI to my iPhone 4S.
Excellent application from the small tests I ran.
Rs. 1300/- is a fair price.
Now slowly one by one I shall have to download maps for different countries too.
At least for those places where my wife and I might conceivably do driving holidays at!
Thank you all for the suggestion!

It took a good 3 or 4 minute to determine where I was in Koramangala this morning, on account of the network being slow.

Not sure whether this will work as well as the resident Nokia Free map application on my Nokia N8 used to work!
Huhhhhh, the app has not yet determined my location when used on Airtel EDGE. I was on Wi-Fi, when I installed and it location me instantly. But, EDGE seems to take for ever. I had the app on for over 10 min and it did not locate me, in side the car. Google Maps used to locate very quickly, Apple Maps and Waze with a little delay.

The driving directions of HERE were pretty good, when used on Wi-Fi, which is of no use while driving. So, HERE is going to be an idle app on the phone till updates improve it.

Yup I have the bill but warranty has expired as it was purchased in April last year. So approx. One and a half years old. It is 16GB.

re: The iPhone Thread

At last got my iPhone 5 16GB. After using Nokia Symbians for more than 10 years, it looks like major upgrade. The UI is very user friendly, but phone looks fragile and have limited standby/talk time. Otherwise, I am happy with my purchase.

Oh yes, from Symbian to IOS is surely a major jump.
I was also in the same boat when i got a 4s few months back.

Also after using getting used to Nokia battery life i guess using any other phone will give you a feeling like that .

Location services eats up battery very fast as they use the GPS , you want to stop that , also for email if you turn off the push , that will also hep extending your battery backup.

Hope it helps .

Cheers

Congratulations. Welcome to the iPhone club. Do regular charge discharge cycles initially and the phone should stay awake for a day with regular use.

Downloaded Sygic MMI on my 4S. Works super. I am yet to update the OS to 6.0.1 even though there is a notification pending from the last 1 week. I got my phone 10 days ago infact but read here that there could be WiFi related issues with the SW update so have not done it as yet.
