I too have seen this issue in my friend’s iPhone SE. It’s ironic that inspite of the battery health showing above 80% the performance is throttled. There is no specific answer to this issue, and the Apple care centre guys advise on getting the battery replaced. What they also mention is that the battery health in the settings is just an ‘indicator’ and may not always be accurate. So looks like probably your phone is due for a battery replacement.

Your battery is unable to provide the power demanded by the CPU operating at full capacity and is collapsing when faced with sudden surge of power demand. Hence, the OS is throttling the CPU to prevent further battery degradation. This happens due to battery degradation. Most iPhone batteries cannot support the heavy duty CPU load after 85% capacity. You can manually turn this performance management off from within the "Battery" settings (will result in more unexpected shutdowns).

Battery replacement from Apple will cost you 4-5k. There are cheaper 3rd party alternatives though.

I have a five year old iPhone 6 that got a new battery fitted a year and half ago (during Apple's program). While the phone works well; the age shows. The newer apps aren't quick enough; multi-tasking (say, texting + Maps) sucks tremendous battery and the phone heats up.

It's best you get a new phone than fit a new battery on such old hardware.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Just wanted to share an experience with Cashify. Wanted to sell my old iPhone. A iPhone 6S 64 GB. A little over 4 years old. Cosmetically flawless. Battery was changed 2 years back from Apple. The only hitch was that there were some dead pixels/spotting on the top left corner. Cashify quoted 8k but when they came home offered me 60% of that - on account of the screen, failing battery and fussed about some scratches which were visible only under a microscope. I sold it today to a friendly neighbour mobile store for 8K, with all the above issues fully disclosed. I am told the phone would have fetched 10K had the battery and screen been in better condition. Can't really recommend Cashify after this for a fair price.

Re: The iPhone Thread

If you had disclosed issues with the screen, I believe Cashify would have offered Zero buyback and you wouldn't have gone through the sour experience. These online buy backs are a hit and miss and if you are lucky, you come through with a great experience. I have always got the estimate from such sites and then sold on OLX/Quikr.

Re: The iPhone Thread

I have my current mobile plan due for renewal in a few weeks. After using the Pixel 2 XL as the personal phone for past two years, its hard to compromise on the photo quality. The ideal choice would have been the Pixel 4 range, but with this generation it is not sold by my current service provider. So the other obvious choice is the iPhone 11 range. Not looking at Samsung due to the added gloss photos and also my work phone is a S10.

Is it worth waiting for a few months and get the iPhone 12 - probably will come with 5G? Or just go with the 11 pro?

The possibility of the next-gen iPhone to be equipped with 5G is still very slim. There aren’t any strong news sources which say so. Having said that, with the current situation of the COVID-19, I have high doubts that the next-gen will arrive in September. With the launch of the iPhone 9/SE already postponed indefinitely by Apple; the case looks bad for iPhone 12 too.
Seems like you are better off going for the iPhone 11 Pro for now. Trust me its the best phone for photography right now. I haven’t used the S20 Ultra, so can’t really comment on that in terms of comparison.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Anyone has replaced battery for a X or XS already? Any idea what’s the cost for the same? My XS battery health is at 82% and expect it to hit 80% and requiring replacement soon.

This is on a 1.5yr old phone which likely degraded faster due to my heavy usage and use of a 29w charger for fast charging.

Re: The iPhone Thread

The battery costs $69 in the US. I would go for it as I find the X to be the best iPhone

Given the current situation, I wonder what the state of R&D spend and technology releases will be this year; especially since bulk of the manufacturing is in China. May be exaggeration but we don't know how much worse the Corona situation will get and how companies will recover.

Also, is your network provider 5G capable yet? Unlikely that 5G will be mainstream in the coming year or two.

That’s a good point. The providers are rolling out progressively here and (on checking further) found out that full capabilities will be ready in 2022 only – quite far

And with China situation, 11 maybe a safe option to go.

You know you can disable that. Go to Settings -> Battery -> Battery Health -> Disable Optimize battery charging.

I am in market for a new iPhone but I was planning to wait until iPhone 12 launch but then I was wondering whether I will even spend the money iPhone 12 (non pro models) will command. And 11 may be cheaper then as well. Currently, I am using iPhone 5S (yes that is not a typo) as my iPhone 6S is unusable due to being incompatible (partially) with Airtel / Jio networks.
