Try copying the gmapsupp.img from the sd card to your device. And then copy the unlock code as well and paste it in the unlock file (along with the existing unlock code for your earlier canada maps.

If this doesn't work, try requesting new map download from satguide with the new unlock code that you can download directly on to your device.

Same as OVI maps for India. Garmin buys maps from Navteq. Navteq is owned by Nokia.

IMO SatGuide maps are utterly useless even if one gets it for free. MMI is much better than the competition, though even they are far from perfect.

Don't think so. Now all three providers are quite good in terms of coverage.

Have used Satguide and Navteq maps in Bangalore, Pune and Goa. Not familiar with these cities but was able to drive around with these maps.

I have used SatNav in the past. whatever, you use update every second year at least. I hear SatNav will update in August, so September may be a good time to do it.

Until India maps go digital, you will have to take all maps wth a sense of humour. remember all maps are ultimately sourced from Survey of India.

That is not the case. Survey maps are at best "useless". All maps are created manually by:

1. Capturing tracks via vehicles modified for this purpose. For example this car was mapping Mumbai:

2. Crowd-sourcing. GPS data is automatically captured from cell phone of users that use services like Waze. This is mapped manually after error correction etc.
3. Satellite images.

With these maps can we have route planning facility like in Google Maps i.e. the device throws up various options of routes and we have to choose which we want. Google Maps also allows us to drag the route on the map itself to select/create a new route.

However, what you can do it plan route on PC and then transfer the route to device.

3. Satellite images.

They may publish junk but are the source. I agree with GPS things are better. Satellite maps will ultimately be used to generate digital maps of the entire country, but it will take time.

I remember not so long ago some of my colleagues were working on a GPS based system for train tracking. They also ended up preparing a digital map for the railways.
