This works with any Garmin unit. I do it with my Nuvi 260W.

I know you might be looking for some shop closer to where you live but see the distributor list on Garmin site.

Garmin India | Distributor

May be you can call one in Bangalore and find out who is a stockist in your area. Cost should be close to 18K give or take.

I got the 2565LM for Rs 17.5K in Nov '11. I preferred the larger 5" screen to the 4.3" on the 2465LM which is 16K.

Garmin rocks - the only other GPS considered was TomTom but wasn't sure about the maps. I also use MMI maps on this device - between the native Garmin-Navteq plus MMI maps the navigator should work in nearly all cities/towns or out on the highways.

It is currently available @ vicky.in (they are TBHPians) for 17,999. It should also be available at any good automobile accessory store in BLR.

Yes it is possible to import Google map routes into the Garmin. You will need to use a tool called Routeconverter or Tyre. Also check:

Note that I haven't done this before.

Re: The GPS/Maps Discussion Thread (Dedicated Satnav, Smartphones, Tablets, etc)

I've been wondering if anyone who has the New iPad (wifi+cellular) has tried it for GPS Nav?? If anyone could share their feedback on the iPad nav with the latest model, it would be great!

Thanks

Re: The GPS/Maps Discussion Thread (Dedicated Satnav, Smartphones, Tablets, etc)

Maybe someone has answered this before, but considering new product launches happening every month, which is the cheapest Android tablet with GPS available at the moment in India?

I am having a thought of using Sygic for maps (now that it allows up to 5 devices to share the same license).
I am looking at something within 10K if available and with 5-7" screen (nothing bigger).

Thanks, but what is the difference between 2565LM vs 50LM?

Their specs is almost same, but 2565LM costs almost twice as 50LM.

The only I noticed was 2565LM has 100 routes while 50LM has none. What does that mean?

Also, 2565LM supports adding GDR 10 Driving recorder. Is GDR 10 available in India? How does that work, does it store the last few hours of video?

Re: The GPS/Maps Discussion Thread (Dedicated Satnav, Smartphones, Tablets, etc)

The 40/50LM were launched quite a bit after the 2465/2565 . I will concider them to be cheaper versions to take on the competition. I do suspect the casing may be the older casing as on the 260 and co. The xx65 are slimmer, with a Li-ion battery and shorter battery life.

No. That is what the handbooks say - 3 hours is down to 1-1/2 hours. In any case when driving I have it plugged in all the time.

I believe in 50LM you will not be able to create and save your own routes which I believe is a handicap (some would say we can create way points and mitigate this handicap) but I generally like to create my own routes and download the same to the device.
Hence given an option I will pick something in which I can download and store my own travel routes.

Hey Sharath,
I was also planning to buy the 2465 unit.
The prices i was offered was 15.9K for 2465 and 18.9K for 2565.
You could buy it from this guy:
Elmer Pinto
Bangalore Survey Instruments Co., Auth.Distributor for Garmin GPS ,
# 201 Green Avenue Apts,77 Mosque Road,Frazer Town,Bangalore 560005.

The additional thing apart from what you've already mentioned that i noticed was that the 2465 and 2565 units supports bluetooth connectivity.

Another question to sgiitk: Is it possible in 50LM to just record a route that am taking to trace back if i get lost?

EDIT: I notice now the above post from f1fan. So Sharath, that's another feature you get with 2465/2565.

Cheers,
Deepak

No idea about the 40/50 series. I do not even know how to save a route on the 2465 (or the earlier Nüvi 265).

I am quite happy to save a destination on Favourites and then ask it to map a route to it. Saving the full details will help a lot since the current route to Gwalior is NH2/25/75 and not NH2/92 which is shorter by about 50km.

What is the purpose of Bluetooth here?

Looks like these guys have jacked up the prices already by about 1.5K to nearly 19K. At that time (in Nov '11) there were only 2 latest models available the 2565 and the 2465 with the new 50 and 40 coming later this year. Both the 40 & 50 have S'pore/Malaysia maps along with India maps.

Routes is the # of custom routes that you can save to the device. For e.g. you could save a custom route configured on the device itself and via other external sources like Google maps. The other difference between the 2565 and the 50 is that it is customisable with icons/voices - gimmicks if you ask me.

The GDR10 should be available (at least was in Dec '11) though it has to be ordered, didn't see much use for the recorder in my context so didn't opt for it. No idea about the price.

PS - forgot to mention that the 2565 has BT connectivity for handsfree mobile use.
