Dear Bhpian

I am contemplating to have some bluetooth navigation device. Ealier on MMI there was one device now i could not find one. Please suggest me some BT GPS device which i can comfortably purchase in India. Any major drawback in BT-GPS ? I am first time user and going to use with my Net-book.

Best VFM BT device is Nuvi 265WT. Cannot say if you can easily get in India.

Order the 265WT from Amazon. I've been using that since last 4 - 5 months or so. Very extensively. The device never stops amazing me.
Ofcourse, wish I could say the same about Satnav maps. But then it's pure VFM.

using maps depends on you, i think you can load satguide or MMI maps into it, but the device costs somewhere around 30k

Satguide sent it as a promo email (Monsoon Offer). You can always call them up and bargain!

If you are going to use a netbook, I feel a better option is their datalogger. (You need their given programs to make it switch between datalogging mode, and NMEA streaming mode. Not very useful with a PND/ smartphone). Their promo price was around 3K for logger. Map separate.

I see you are in Assam. I wouldn't put too much faith in the maps you will get, irrespective of the source.

Regards
Sutripta

SatGuide : Bid & Buy Clearance Sale offers

You can go through this link and see the offer of satguide, i too got a mail from them.

the devices looks really VFM, but depends upon the areas mapped by satguide in your area.

I bought the Garmin Nuvi 205W recently from abroad. Superb to use while driving about there. Really helpful indeed. It certainly makes life much easier than it was in the days when one was forced to drive about constantly having to consult maps etc.

Coming back home I bought the MapmyIndia SD Card with India Maps. It is useful here as well but despite these latest maps being updated till June 2010, there are gaps in the information - not blaming them because our cityscapes change so rapidly.
Also the SatNav device tends to choose the shortest route which in INdia sometimes can be irritating on account of narrow, crowded roads.

Else it is an excellent investment in my opinion.

I bought mapmyindia maps for my Sony Ericsson Vivaz through the e-buy option. Installed everything and now the Vivaz internal GPS 9600 shows 'detection failed' when trying to 'auto detect' GPS satellites. Has someone faced the same issue ? Any tips on how to sort this out ?

I believe this map doesnt require a data connection on the phone as Car devices never use any data service.

Edit: I forgot something. It had a program called Wisepilot which worked perfectly on my Pondy trip. Now the trial period got over and I had uninstalled it.

"Easy"? Not for non-techies, MX! For me it's Latin and Greek...

Kindly put up the tutorial, (haven't been able to locate it in this thread - did I miss it?).

I have the same combo - 265WT, Sat Nav map, on advice of Ampere. I have been troubling him day and night!

Ampere, have got MapSource installed now. Waiting to be able to work on SatNav maps.

Thanks in advance folks!

SatNav is very good with customer support. Over the last 1 year I've contacted Satguide some 3 times and each and every time my email was answered within a couple of hours.
