100 pages of discussion on the same topic:

Use that thread. All your doubts will get cleared. We can actually close this thread.

Summary:

If possible buy a Garmin device from Amazon (You will get in 100$ range and then add Satguide or MMI maps).

Mapmyindia have the best maps that are currently available. You can buy a device with the latest maps for around 8000. I would suggest go for these.

Buy MapmyIndia Navigator : GPS Navigation in India | Portable Navigation Device (PND) with India's best maps

Also now a days you get lot of mobile phones with GPS capabilities, for example Samsung galaxy 3 which has GPS and is available for 11000 only. This has the best maps that are available from Google Maps and you can buy the MapMyIndia for another 2000. This way you do not have to carry 2 different devices.

Hope this helps.

There you go. I had one of this: eBay India: Car Universal Holder Cradle Mount for GPS CELL PHONE (item 280572604294 end time 07-Nov-2010 15:51:51 IST) at home. The width it can hold was just enough for a slim Nuvi (a W model wouldn't fit), and still then I had to open/reassemble it up to change some alignment because the USB charging point wasn't getting exposed properly. It is pretty good now, held securely (doesn't shake) by foam padded arms, low enough not to draw attraction from casual outsiders, and still signal is strong enough for accurate navigation.

Do you get a clear view? From the picture it appears that the steering wheel would be blocking your view.

Yep, only the right bottom corner is not visible directly (have to lean a little), but that generally contains current speed and eco-drive score, so no real rush/curiosity to read those numbers. All necessary readings are in clear view.

Thank you Kousik. One question , where have you mounted the base of the holder? It seems like it is blocking the A/C vent too. Extensive exposure near to the A/C blower could be a risk..right?

Yes it half blocks the vent, but I don't use much ac anyway, generally left in the milder setting. I'll figure out an alternative by summer.

Does this above coupon code worked for someone at the Satguide website. I tried to purchase map for my Garmin 205 which I used in US. But there seems to be no discount further after adding the above coupon code. The price still shows 990/-. /
Someone, please confirm if these coupons work.

Also, I was thinking if I we could use copy these micro-sd card content to multiple cards and then use on other devices or if there is some lock which prevents it from being copied.

@sameer551: The code is locked to the specific card.

Thanks sir. I will try to buy it from some store in Delhi. I don't use online payment gateways. I hope they do sell these sd cards on their tie up retail outlets.

Yes. There is a post on another channel that they now sell only on MicroSD and do not give you the adapter. These should be about Rs.50, and easily available on the market. For all you know there may even be one sitting in some drawer. Also, there is some talk of picking up some code (a marketing gimmick) and getting a SatNav for Rs.475!
