You have to lose something to win something.

Anything bought from the Luminous eshop automatically gets registered for paperless warranty.

If you want to save the 1500 bucks, it would be best to walk down to the local shop and pick up the same inverter and battery from there. Not only will they be able to match the online price but would also give you instant buy back of your old inverter & battery if you have the same to return.

I am currently in the process of buying a Luminous inverter from the local dealer and the batteries from the e shop. Am getting much better price for the inverter from the dealer and the model of battery that I want is available only on the e shop. Getting it direct from the company also ensures that I will get the freshest possible stock for the battery that would have 0 days spent on the shelves at the stockist, distributor, dealer levels.

I use an APC inverter (from Schneider Electric) with Exide batteries. APC service in Bangalore is quite good. My local Exide dealer does the top-up and routine maintenance.

Planning to get an inverter for my flat. Total of 7 fans, 7 LEDs of 9w each, one 32 inch LCD TV and a few small ticket items. I would almost never need all fans to be run together. At the max, 3 at a time.

Please let me know what capacity and kind of battery and inverter (pure sine wave) should I go for. Also what range of appliances can I expect to run on it. Please advise as this would be my first inverter purchase.

The calculation is simple. Just find out the VA (not Wattage) of each appliance. For example a 7W LED may for all practical purpose consume any where upto 11VA. Similarly a 40W fan will actually consume 60-70VA. Then you have to factor in the efficiency and temperature derating. A rough calculation

1. 7 LEDm 7W = 7 x 11 = 77VA
2. 3 fans, 40W = 3 x 70 = 210 VA
3. TV = 1 x 200 VA

Total = 77 + 210 + 200 = 487 ~ 500 VA. That is the UPS rating.

Battery for 5 hours.

VA = 500
T = 5 H
Voltage = 12
so capacity = (500/12) x 5 ~ 210 AH.
Derating for 5 hour discharge = .7 (battery capacities are for 10 hour discharge), so AH = 210/.7 ~ 300.

So you need a 500-800 VA UPS with a 300AH 12 volt battery.

I have a "Holiday Home" where I plan to install a Inverter setup.
I plan to have a inverter with a 150AH battery.

I have found out this inverter with a Solar charger as well.
My needs are not as high as the usage is going to be very limited.

Please advice.

The specifications are confusing. From what I can deduce the inverter has built in functionality to charge upto 30A from a solar panel. What is left unsaid is
. Whether the solar panel shown is provided in the price
. What is the power rating of the shown Solar Panel
. Whether the 30A solar panel is available at all, and if so at what cost. 30A at 12V is 360VA.

I doubt that there will be any high power Solar Panel provided in the 6K price.

It seems that the battery has to be bought separately.

Yes the battery will be purchased separately.
I too did the 360VA calculation and hope that atleast a fan can be running if the battery has been dishcarged during the day time.

I just read the Q&A section and the Panel is not included.

Would you suggest still buying it or go for some other Inverter?

Also can anyone suggest price for the compatible panel?

Manas, If I am not wrong, Mircotek 1660 model needs a 24v battery setup while the 1330 model is a 12v one. You may want to.check on that as well.

Even I was keen on buying a 1330 model + 150ah battery + 200va panel for our house 3 months back, but dropped it as I could not find a local store for it (did not put much effort). Gave up the idea as power cuts have come down significantly.

I could not find any meaningful (+ve or -ve) online for these microtek inverter models.

The UPS requires 24V so you need two batteries. That is a better proposition as two batteries will have longer discharge time. I checked on the net and there is a 24V, 500W solar panel available

UPS + 2 x 150AH batteries + 500W Solar Panel

Is it possible to setup a solar inverter to
a) draw power from battery/solar panel (since it is charging continuously)
b) switch to mains/grid power only if battery charges goes below a particular %age threshold

Basically, I would like to harness the solar power as much as possible during the day and night and avoid using grid power if possible. IMO, if we have 300ah (150x2 batteries) should take care of power needs 24x7 in our case with a 500w solar panel setup since we have sunlight for 8-10 hours. From what I know, the primary source for an inverter setup is always the grid/power from mains and it falls back to battery power only when grid is off. How to invert its functionality?

It is possible. In fact most of solar home systems (solar inverter + battery charger) are designed to maximise the internal consumption of solar energy.
Power will be drawn from mains only if the battery state of charge (SOC) is below critical value.

Solar power system work exactly that way - on Solar Panel + Battery normally and switch to Mains when battery is discharge beyond a set threshold.

Purchased two 100AH amaron tubular inverter batteries from Battery bhai website. The earlier battery of a local yet extremely famous 'zip' the brand was no longer available. Got a better deal compared to local shops. Using it with an APC 1000VA 24 volts inverter. Getting a backup of around 7 hours with 5 led bulbs, 2 fans and a plasma TV
