The home / office air-conditioner thread

Guys,

need your suggestions in buying a 0.75 to 1.0 ton split A/c for my new house .

Any feedback on the brand, model no. and indicative price will be most welcome.

I think LG has the best prices and service. Samsung is really good too, but a bit more expensive.

Whatever you do though, STAY AWAY FROM CARRIER!!!

Unless you want it looking like this:

Well, carrier guys came for routine service. Tinkered around. Next morning at about 6.am. we smell smoke. Wake up to see thick black smoke coming out of the room with sparks flying. Turn off main power supply but the plastic housing of the AC has already caught fire and is spreading quickly. Manage to contain the fire but the smoke damage ruins the room and most of the house.

Funny part was that the AC was not even on. Carrier refused to accept any responsibility.

i now have only LG in my house. And a new fire extinguisher.

didnt see a a/c burn the house before.

hey are those tiles on the wall??

LG not good with compressor for hot climate ( who told: My friend has an agency that sells LG) so didnt go for it.

Try hitachi - LOGI COOL very high end one: supposed to save on power, I keep the A/C on all day I dont get high bills , so might be saving ower and money in long run.

O General is the best in india also the costliest I suppose.

Rtech ,

i quite liked carrier but with your experience i will be wary of them !

yeah i have samsung ac's at my factory spilt and window - not a problem till date . infact have quite a few samsung tv's too from the time they were launched not a problem yet with those too !

so satya, u better do a rethink on korean home appliance products atleast !

hi ady
we have all o general a/c s in our house, all were grey market pieces bought in 1996,so far not even a single one has given any trouble, just one cleaning/servicing was done tilll now.no gas filling nothing ,plus it consumes a lot less current

would suggest o general, it might be a bit a bit expensive but u will save in the long run

I have a General split and a Hitachi window type at home.Had the Hitachi for over two years now,no problems. The General is just over a year old.Had a pair of Hotpoints before.Had them for over a decade, brought down when we relocated from Sharjah.Generally speaking, pun intended,General is said to be one of the best.

Its Hitachi for me.... Hitachi's compressor is considered to be the best compared to LG/Samsung...
