I think Daikin, General, Sharp and some models of Panasonic should fit the bill for R410a. 1000W is about 4A - tough, I think they are more like 5A at full load. Also, even though Inverters are more efficient they do not have a 5* rating by and large, since at full tilt they may not meet the specs of 5*.

Thanx for your suggestions.
Both Panasonic and LG Inverter models consumptions are lesser than 1000W.

As per the LG specifications http://www.lg.com/in/split-ac/lg-BS-Q126B8R4
Current rating : 5A
Power : 980W

For Panasonic it is even more interesting http://www.panasonic.co.in/wps/porta...stal/csys12pky
Current rating : 4.6A
Power : 990 (270 -1,110)

So in both the case power will be more than 1kW at full load, but taper down when the room is cool enough.

You can consider sharp 1.1 ton inverters. Sharp inverter models can be configured to operate below certain power thresholds. My 1.5 ton inverter has 3 such thresholds (0.8kw, 1.1 kw and Max)

What an explanation alpha1! I am sure you are a chemical engineer (?)

Anyway, I just booked a Sharp Invertor split AC, 1.1ton model. It has an EER of 3.63 compared with 3.4x of regular 5 star models.

re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

This might help folks who are re fixing split air conditioners. I did with the help of my uncle as the quotation from the Blue Star dealer was ridiculous. My uncle had all the required tools and knowledge. He ended up buying all the tools as when he bought his Samsung, the free installation was taking its own sweet time so he took a refund from the dealer for the so called "Free Installation" (Everything is a bloody scam) which was around Rs 1500 and ended up fixing his new split unit himself. We took two days to do it due to difficult installation conditions for placing the outdoor unit and a bad quality Dayton flaring tool.

Now why I asked for my uncle's help was because the dealer quoted Rs. 4800 for re installation. This included everything from copper tubing, to drilling a hole in the wall, labor, drain pipe, refrigerant. The dealer was charging me Rs. 650 for a meter of copper tubing. I went to the market and landed up paying Rs. 223 for the same. For refrigerant, I paid Rs. 450 for a kilo as against Rs. 750 from the dealer for the same classification of refrigerant. With a 5 meter requirement for copper tubing, the saving made on just the copper tube alone is huge. I would have saved Rs. 450 for refrigerant if the unit was pumped down during removal. As this was not done, I landed up filling nearly a kilo of refrigerant.

Finally bought Panasonic 1.2 Ton Split A/C for Rs. 18000. After considering various options I finalized for this A/C considering its price and size.

Installation will be done tomorrow, will post detailed review and pictures upon installation.

My brother also has this A/C albeit a 1.5 ton unit which is performing fine.

Is this the Cube?
I don't think the other split ACs are available at this price point.

Yes this is cube....just got the delivery. Is there any specific reasons why cube models are quite cheaper than routine split ACs?

No installation is extra @ 1500 INR. I bought this machine from Mittal Electronics, opposite Saroj Hospital, Madhuban Chowk, Delhi. Ph - 011-27941789

This is a normal split unit so it will be fixed on the wall only.

re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

I need some help.

I was thinking to buy a window AC (since I stay in rented apartment) and was almost decided on Hitachi 1.5 Ton QC (Bajaj Electronics quoted 35.7k for this).

However, after reading about after sales service of Hitachi on internet (mouthshut) I am very very confused, Most of the reviews are very negative.

First of all most of the shops don't stock window ACs at all. Out of 5 well known showrooms, I managed to find window AC in only one shop. They had only Hitachi (5*) and O General (2*). Other shops were reacting as if I am from some other planet or I have committed sin by asking for window AC.

I need your valuable suggestions on following..

1. Should I really go for window AC only? I have heard that copper pipes get spoiled when relocating to other place.
2. How is the After Sale service of Hitachi in Hyderabad. Should I bet my hard earned money on this.
3. Does star rating really saves money for house hold usage. In how many months/years I would be able to break even 2* vs 5* if the price difference is 7-8k.
4. Does going to Panasonic cube make sense?

I asked about the make because Whirlpool has been using compressors(in their airconditioners) from Sanyo, Panasonic and other Japanese manufacturers. Wanted to know if they have moved to generic vendors.
Its the 3D cool 1 Tonner 5 star . Its mentioned in the whirlpool brochure that the compressor is 'other' but for models which are not 1 tonner, the compressor type is mentioned as 'Japanese'.Please see the attachment.
