For India

No.1 = Hitachi
No.2 = Samsung
No.3 = LG
No.4 = All Rest - Whirlpool, Voltas etc

If price is an issue, then Hitachi goes down because it's costliest but it is the best also. But Samsung is very nice too with v good cooling.

How about Onida , I have heard its one the best in market , most underrated.
It has the best colling and lesser fuel bills and pricing is in parralel to LG/ Samsung.

Any reviews ?

I think you are right. And as the local dealer here says. It uses Hitachi compressor. And Indian price. Should be a good buy.

Infractions: 0/1 (10)

the part which distinguishes a good ac from a bad one is its compressor.....and the best is hitachi.but hitachi is also expensive.go for voltas cos they use hitachi's compressors and u end up payn less.

Do look at the EER (Energy efficiency ratio) while buying the AC. A higher EER will mean money saved for the same amount of cooling. Divide the BTU by watts to arrive at the EER. Some dealers will tell you not to look into the EER "crap," but they are wrong. In fact, that is the single objective thing to look for before zeroing in on your buy. Also, the brochures may indicate a different EER while the label on the AC may indicate a different value. Trust only the EER marked on the label on the AC.

When I last checked out ACs, Electrolux had some of the highest EERs in the market, with Samsung and LG the lowest.

EERs also vary across the different models of the same brand. While the 1.0 ton Atom (Hitachi) boasts an EER of 11.3, the 1.5- and 2.0-ton models have an EER of 10.0 (not bad, but not too near the 11.3 mark).

Actually ACs are of three types
1. Low end: The kind they sell at 9999rs on indiatimes.com
2. Medium-up : LG, samsung, etc.,
3. High end : Hitachi, daikin etc.,

The high end ACs will be quieter and use slightly less electricity. But otherwise there is not much difference. So when you choose an AC look for after sales support and warranty. Samsung is great in this respect. Fast service, and they honour warranty commitments.

How about Blue Star? How good are they? Anyone using them?
I know they've been for a long time in the commercial market.
