Folks, I have a Samsung Home Theater system which supports USB media. It's possible to connect an external USB hard drive or USB flash drive and play movies or songs from the media. I connect my Seagate Freeagent external USB hard disk to it which houses my MP3's and videos.

Does any one have an idea if the hard drive can get damaged in the long run since the DVD player doesn't have a proper USB power down feature the way you have on a PC, rather the drive switches off directly when the player is switched off (powers off), unlike the regular eject media that you have in Windows. I'm wondering if this can damage the platters of the media in the long run and whether it's better to stick to regular flash drives on DVD players instead of data drives (though you have much more flexibility and storage with a data drive).

Thanks in advance.
