Let us Map our India

Hi, google has come up with this collaborative mapping website where in people can login and mark places of interest.

Google Map Maker

Looks to be a nice initiative to create a wiki style mapping system that gets updated regularly.

@Joe,

I did try naming some places/roads etc. but I believe it requires another user to verify before it gets stored in google's database.

Do you know the process?

it works this way. Each person will have to add a locality which he is very familiar with as his neighbourhood and then when ever some one makes some changes in the map, it goes to some one who has marked this locality as his neighbourhood for verification.
Once google feels that a person is trustworthy (I don't know how can we make google believe :-)) then there won't be any need for this 2 stage process and in this case, your change gets updated instantaneously.

It would be nice if it didn't get filed with the same rubbish that ruins Wikimapia: huge boxes called "My House"
