Sure, I will try it out today when I go home. The thing is if I connect my old non-wi-fi router to the desktop it works perfectly fine with the desktop. I can connect to the Internet. So I thought that there must not be any problem with the lan card on the desktop.

- One connecting to net
- The other is connecting to the router itself.

- Before connecting to net, you should be able to connect to the router.
- Hence I suggested check if you can ping to 192.198.1.1. If that does not work, it means LAN port is not up.
- If that is up and net is not working, then it means, you need to check the connections settings. May be its the DNS which is mucking it up.

Re: The Ubuntu Linux Thread

Hi GNU/Linuxers @ Team-BHP,

I was initially pleasantly surprised to see this Linux/Ubuntu thread here at Team-BHP, but a bit downhearted to see that there has not been any activity in this thread since 2013.

Anyway, I will try to do some jump-starting, by taking the honours to announce the latest release from the Ubuntu stable – 20.04 LTS, which is supported with security updates till 2025. (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases)

Ubuntu (https://ubuntu.com) is the most widely used GNU/Linux OS (https://www.gnu.org/gnu/why-gnu-linux.html) distribution (https://distrowatch.com) since more than a decade back and has matured a lot since its first release, 4.10 (stands for 2004.Oct) which was more than 15 years back.

About me, I have been using only GNU/Linux as my OS at home from 2003. Presently have Linux Mint installed as my primary OS, Ubuntu on another partition and also FreeDOS on yet another, for those old DOS games (multibooting Linux Mint, Ubuntu & FreeDOS). There is also a DOS emulator called DOSbox, which can be installed on GNU/Linux for playing old DOS games from within GNU/Linux but since I had used DOS during my initial days at school and had become a fan of it also, I wanted a separate partition with a proper installation of DOS too.

Though I am not an avid gamer these days, I have installed games like Live For Speed (a scaled down version of NFS), FreeDoom (a free fork of Doom) and Quake (shareware) on Ubuntu.

I find it joyous to DIY – download, install and use GNU/Linux.

With best regards.
