Installed Win 7 in my Dell Studio. Surprisingly it is amazing and feeling that it is slicker than Vista and XP.

Need to explore in depth in the coming days.

Overall it is going to be another success story for Microsoft after XP.

Its very very good. I used it on my friends laptop, soon will get a chance to use it on Quadcore.

Somone reviewed the performance between Windows 7 and Vista and the conclusion was not much faster than Vista.

I just wonder if he was running Windows 7 on P4 & Vista on Quad Core and then checked the performance.

Been using Windows 7 on a Sony Vaio VGN-S56GP with upgraded 1.5gb RAM. Runs much better than Vista Ultimate on the same hardware.

offtopic: Even OSX leopard runs better than Vista Home Basic on a Compaq Presario V3777TU.

It's a dream when it comes to responsiveness, and gaming performance is miles better than that in vista, almost as good as xp

Two thumbs up !!

MS says, The corresponding server OS to windows 7 would be Windows Server 2008 R2 and it would be a minor release. So I guess, that explains Windows Server 2008's performance being much better than vista!

I'm too downloading windows 7, will install to see how it stacks against the server 2008!
If its too graphic intensive, it might not be too good on my 7300GS.

Am running the RC on my secondary hard drive. Although I have 1.5GB of RAM, my old workhorse (Athlon 2GHz) can get a bit strained at times. What I like: The memory consumption is very controlled even with Full aero.

Running RC(upgrade on vista) and installation was butter smooth. No driver issues, All devices working as they were before. The performance is amazingly fast. Liked the new large icons on the task bar and also the window resizing when pushed to the wall.
All in all a very welcome OS upgrade. Surprisingly my visual studio is launching faster than it used to be on Vista.

Had a chance to test windows 7 on a thinkpad... installation and drivers were setup without any issue... all left unattended! and the system was much faster than XP.

But had issue with Outlook 2007 and connectivity, even though internet was pretty fast.

I hope MS got this one right!

(There goes my Vista investment!!! Ummm... do they give free upgrade to early adopters like me??? )

There is lot of requests from the Windows Vista Ultimate users() to provide free upgrade to them to Windows 7.

I wonder how Microsoft is going to react to this type of requests.

Also, forgot to mention that you can download the technical release of kaspersky antivirus for Windows 7. I guess its free to use until MS releases Windows 7 into the market.

Bugged by Vista, I switched to Mac - There is no turning back!

I still use my Vista PC for some personal stuff like photos, videos (Macbook Pro) is for my office work. I ran Windows 7 (beta) in a Sun Virtual Box and found the UI more responsive than Vista

As mentioned in a thread above, MS should give an upgrade to Windows Vista Premium /Ultimate users.

Microsoft seems to have a habit of doing this - Branched of Windows Me from the main tree and then killed it. Went back to NT for XP. Again branched off for Vista. Now it is killing the branch and switching back to NT/Server technology

No issues with drivers; first thing that impressed me.

I'm stuck with Vista Business (preloaded on my CS15) and hate it. Any rumour/news about free upgrade for (Microsloth Windoze) Vista Business licence holders too? Meanwhile I have upgraded my desktop pc to Ubuntu 9.04 and loving it.
