Re: The Windows Phone Thread

Gorilla glass, Carl Zeiss Optics, 2000mAh battery.. This was enough for me to wait for 720. And IMO it is be best looking lumia phone. It is very hard to resist 620 though! I am only concerned about its battery. Seeing the terrific sample videos from 620 on youtube, I am hoping that the 720 would be still better. Hope Nokia would price it bang in the middle of 620 and 820.

Hi,

I have lumia 800 and I hadn't got the 7.8 update yet. As per my understanding it is rolledout almost a month back. Any idea about this?

Regards
Deva

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

When can we expect the lumia 520 to launch? I think specs wise it is as good as the 620. Any help in choosing between the two? Usage is basic.

The rollout started but has been suspended indefinitely for now due to some issues.

As per specs from Nokia site,
920 has both Carl Zeiss lens and Corning Gorilla glass 2
820 has Carl Zeiss lens but no Gorilla glass
720 has Corning Gorilla glass 2 but no Carl Zeiss lens
620 and 520 doesn't have both.

Can you please point me to the relevant section in the Nokia portal?

I checked the below spec link and see no mention of Carl Zeiss anywhere.

http://www.nokia.com/in-en/products/...pecifications/

EDIT: Found the reference in the photography section. It does have Carl Zeiss Tessar lens.

BTW, what is the difference between Nokia Drive/Nokia Maps and HERE Drive/Maps. 720 seem to be having HERE instead of Nokia suite.

Mohit, here is the comparison between 720, 620 and 520. For basic usage I guess the 520 should be good enough.

There is no difference between the two. Nokia has just renamed the Nokia Drive/Maps as Here Drive/Maps after the recent update. Updated a week back on my Lumia 820

There is no difference at all as already pointed out by Rufus. All Nokia apps were rebranded to Here when they were made available to all Windows Phone Devices. So now these apps are not exclusive to Nokia. Anybody with any Windows phone device can buy them from the store.

Going by Nokia's track record, we should not expect 520 to hit the stores for another 3 months.

Unless budget is tight, I would suggest the 620 over 520. Main differences being lack of front facing camera and an inferior display in 520. You can compare the displays of existing models 510 and 610 to get an idea of the displays of 520 and 620.

Nice. Is it available in WP7 too or is it any WP8 device?

I'll hopefully switching to HTC 8X in the next couple of weeks if I get time to cut my sim to micro-sim dimensions and get an adapter to put it in regular phones. Would love these Nokia apps on HTC. That was one of the compromises I had to go with while choosing 8X over 820 but Gorilla glass was a deal breaker for me in discarding 820. None of these apps look good on broken screen, it was really an oversight from Nokia to take out Gorilla glass from the specs of a 25k phone like 820.

Its for WP8 alone. At the time of WP8 launch, it was mentioned that Nokia apps would be made available on all WP8 phones but it wouldn't have all the features of Nokia Maps. So, just wanted to confirm if features in Here Maps is identical to Nokia Maps or whether it is a subset of it.

Don't have my HTC 8X with me as my wife is using it. Will check and confirm.
