I wouldn't call it recent. I've been receiving this update notification (Genuine advantage) over 18 months or so. Except this I've installed other updates. I always deselect this update.

Now, now, don't anybody think that I'm using a pirated OS. I've a single user licenced copy of the XP Pro.

If you dont use IE for browsing, it is possible IE is set to "work offline".

Open IE > File > Work offline (keep it unchecked)

Here's a few easy steps you could take:

1) Start --> Run --> Cmd --> ping Google -t
- Paste the results here

2) nslookup microsoft.com
- Paste results

3) Download Mozilla Firefox, install and check if it works.

4) You have been using a pirated version on MS-Win-Xp and have installed the "Microsoft Genuine Advantage Tool". In this event reinstall Windows and buy a copy kid. It costs as much as your Fiat Rs. 1700/- ++

5) Learn computers

If this happens next time with Messenger or any other IM - give meebo.com a try.
