Hi,

I have no mac knowledge, so need some help plz!

I am plainning to burn a DVD of a couple of divx and xvid movies on a PC, and then give it to a Mac user to view.

1> Will the mac be able to read the file format of the PC written DVD?
2> Can the mac play the .avi files encoded with divx or xvid with its standard media player?
or
Will a 3rd party software have to be downloaded to play divx/xvid movies, and if so.....what software do you reccomend?

I am a Mac user, I use 'VLC' which can play virtually anything under the Sun. And it is free! Note: VLC is meant for Mac , I don't know whether Windows version exists, (I don't care either!)

Rehaan, I am not sure about second part of your question (which media player). But the formats are independent of Operating System, so as long as you have media player on Mac which understands the format, it should be able to play it. And since Mac has fantastic multimedia support, I see no reason why it should be not be able to play that DVD. Hopefully, you are not using any MS only codec for recording it.

P.S.: Not sure if I understood your question correctly in first place, but anyway, I gave it a try.

SMG, i guess a PC equivalent is MPC (media player classic).

Will keep VLC in mind if there seems to be a problem on the mac.

Hey, Rehaan, I got a Mac. Does the file open on WMP?? Cause, iff it does, then you can download a WMP version for the Mac and open it. However, 'VLC' will open absolutely every format that there is. .avi included.it opens .wmv and .wma files as well. So, theoretically there should be no problewm opening it on a Mac. Do tel me (us?) what happens.

Even QuickTime works fine. You just need to download the codec first from divx.com where they have provided for the mac codec as well.
