Nintendo Wii

Can I buy a Nintendo wii in the US and get it to India ?
Is it compatible with Indian TV systems? I remember reading something like Indian TVs are NTSC and US are PAL (or vice versa). Will that be an issue?

I do not see any issue, as most of the models in India do support NTSC. You can run your games on that. Only problem will be power adaptor, check for that or buy some good converter and you are done.

Buddy i bought a Wii when it was introduced in the US...form India. I was in the US at that time and it just blew my mind. I was going to get it but thought of checking up first with my guy here. Would you believe it was cheaper here. I came back and bought it.
It was 200$ in the US and that would mean getting an adaptor for the 110-240V switch. Then the chip would have to me modified (for the NTSC to PAL system and to run pirated DVDs on it) which cost another Rs. 4500 additional.
I bought it here for 15.5K which makes it a cheaper than the whole deal and no hassles t carry it here.

Get one from the local market. Im sure prices have fallen since then,

In Delhi Gray market, UAE model and one malaysian models are there. UAE one is costly around 14k to 15k and Malaysian is around 12K-13K. Not sure what is the difference in that but yet there is.

Quite easy to softmod now. No chip required to play those special games. Modded my Wii a few months ago, you need an original copy of Zelda to do the softmod.

Hi,

I am quite interested in getting my wii modified to play pirated games since I bought it when I was in UK and have since moved to India am am restricted to games bought from UK.

To date, while I had heard of soft mod, Only real solution I had found was Wii Chip. Can you please provide me with detailed instructions along with pros and cons of modding my Wii ?

Akhilesh,

Google Wii softmod and there are lots of hits.

Following is similar to what I did :

How-To Safely Soft Mod Your Wii To Run Homebrew - The Game Forum

I guess big pro is you can use backup games. You need net connection (with wii connected to net) to do the softmod.

We got a Wii Sports some months back for 16K. For 2K more you get a pack of plastic aceessories - tennis racket, golf club, but the best is the steering wheel. No adpater, not NTSC/PAL nonsense and we could use our baggage allowance for stuff we dont get here (mostly cheeses, coffees, jams/spreads, and other food stuff like hearts of palm, pepporni rolls, and a selection of choclates - I can see Gogi's interest perk up already).

Heera Panna. I'll have to ask my son about the games. I have no idea about this stuff. The Wii was really a birthday gift from my wife's brother to my son.

I got my wii from australia more than a year back, Its a PAL unit and most of the backups and original titles available in india are in the NTSC format.
I wanted to buy a NTSC unit from the states but they were selling like hotcakes and i could not find one at gamestop/best buy/Walmart etc even after months of looking.

due to the PAL restriction I have to buy my games from only the UK or Australia
Which is a bummer!

You don't buy the Wii for graphics. You would buy it because there is some physical exercise involved while playing a game, unlike PS3/XBox. Another good thing about the Wii is that the controller is much better compared to PS3/XBox.

Oh and I forgot to mention I bought the wii fit as well, the wii fit board peripheral along with the bundled game makes for a great personal trainer ( for light exercises ) and also provides loads of fun times.

anyone else got the wii fit here?
