At least, don't buy an inkjet, and certainly not a cheap one.

On the other hand, if you must have an inkjet, for multi-coloured documents and occasional pictures, Use it, at least once a week.

I second the thought that laser printers are better when the quantity of sheets printed is less. However, I think ink tank printers do not need daily or weekly prints. I have a Canon ink tank printer, and it was unused for 6+ months during lockdown (when we were not in Bangalore). It worked without any issues after that.

If there is a lean month without any printouts required for children, I usually print a couple of photos to keep the ink from drying up.

Cheers! But I accept that I have been outvoted by others with different and more recent experience of inkjet printers.

The same printer is now selling for 25k on amazon and is out of stock on fk.

I am also looking for a printer for home usage, occasional photo prints but not mandatory. Please suggest any other printers.

Re: Suggestions for printers

Expanding my tiny office a little and need a new printer.
Main considerations are:
i. fast (often have to print 100s of pages in one go)
ii. cheap ink/toner
iii. WiFi enabled.
Would prefer if it has the option of double-sided printing.
Looking in the 15-20k budget.

I have absolutely zero idea about what a good option would be. Any help from fellow members would be welcome.

Have been using this for the past one year and very much satisfied. Take a look and explore a little bit:

https://www.hp.com/in-en/shop/hp-sma...er-4sb24a.html
  • Fast - Yeah, but not so much. Inkjet printers will be limited to a certain speed. ~10ppm (black).
  • Cheap - More or less yes. It is ink tank, so no need of replacing the cartridges very often.
  • WiFi - Yes.
  • In your budget - Yes.
  • Double sided printing - Yes, but manually you will have to flip the papers after one side printing.

Re: Suggestions for printers

Been using Canon Pixma G3000 midrange inktank printer, purchased 6months ago, quite satisfied with performance. Connects over wifi, and can directly print from mobilephone. Cost roughly 14.5K.

Came with 2 large black ink bottles + 3 each small cyan/magenta/yellow bottles.

Usage is not typical office/business style - just personal docs for self & kids school projects.

But compared to old inkjet printer that runs out of ink within just 50-60 pages, this is going strong even after ~75pages in last 6 months, and ink-level is almost >= 80%.

So, good for personal usage, atleast for me!

Unless you absolutely must have colour, buy a laser printer.

I would have agreed with you a few years ago Thad. But now, the ink tanks are simply so affordable that it would be a great buy for usage like 50 to 100 pages a day. It's not as maintainance free as a laser would be, but the cost of running and color really makes up for it.

Remember one thing: leave the printer on always - this helps the printer run it's calibration activities and also keep the ink nozzles moist so they don't dry up. Even more important if you are not going to use it for extended periods of time like a few weeks.

Re: Suggestions for printers

Thanks to all for the recommendations!

I don't require colour at all - speed and cost are the only main factors.

Others have also suggested laser printers for their speed. Will look into it. Thanks!

Re: Suggestions for printers

Hello folks,

I'm also in the fray for a multi-function printer for my home/small office purpose. My basic requirements are:
- Multi-function capability (print, copy, scan)
- ADF (Automatic document feeder)
- Duplex scanning
- Wireless connectivity for commands
- B&W/ Color doesn't matter much

Kindly suggest.

Best wishes

That looks like a later model of mine. Looks good.

Be aware (I think, at a glance) that this is wired networking. Needs to be cabled to the router. Still, wireless devices can print to it. That's my setup

You have not mentioned your budget.

I bought this printer about 4 months ago and the experience has been good. Costs around 11k, meets all your requirements.

Thank for your response. This has a flatbed scanner, won't do duplex scanning.
