re: Suggestions for printers

@Cowardly Lion

For your requirements, I would suggest you to buy either HP 1020+ or Canon 2900B, Available between 6250/- and 6750/- Both the printers are same and run on the Popular Q2612A cartidge (Canon 303 Cartridge and a Hp Q2612a Cartridge are on the same) gives you 2000 copies, and considered to be bajaj, Compatible cartridges availiable for around 900 bucks, believe me you will thank me later on, for suggesting you these 2 printers, dont even touch the others

Hey Loksin. Thanks for your advise. I spoke to a friend today and he has some background in these things and he was like " I don't care which printer you buy as long as it uses the 12A cartridge". He went on and on about how easy this cartridge is to work with....
Subsequently spoke to a refill guy about brother and canon etc and he was like "please buy a printer with 12A". No one got back to me about the refilling the brother toner.. and then your post.
It is sad that there is no printer that uses 12A and is network ready and does auto duplex...

Loksin, can any of these two printers be connected to a print server ?
Once again thanks for your concern and reply...

Yes, it is a pity that it is not wireless, but from the day you unpack it, you will think this is designed for an office. I suspect that is why there is no marketing: Maybe Brother sells to office market not domestic computer.

It's not small, it's quite heavy and chunky, and it is quite noisy when running. I don't mind any of those things for occasional use.

After so many months of using it, I eventually noticed that I had, in my Ubuntu print setup, called it Bother instead of Brother! Well, never mind: most printers are!

re: Suggestions for printers

guys,

looking to buy a Print/Scan/Copy printer with Wireless and Duplex features. it will be used very sparingly for just 10-20 prints a month. Visited a store yesterday and after reading a bit online have zeroed in on 2 options.

1. HP Deskjet 3525

2. Canon Pixma 3170

Which of the above should i go for ?

Thanks

re: Suggestions for printers

Any suggestions on a good all in one printer/scanner/copier for home use. Usage will be very less, about 10 pages print max per month. Mainly for emergency print outs or copy.

Only requirement is it should either have Wifi or should be network capable. USB only will not work since print will be from iPad mostly. LAN is ok since I can connect to teh router.

re: Suggestions for printers

Guys please suggest a laser (monochrome) multi function printer with print, scan and copy facility for around 8K. I am tired of changing cartridges on my Canon MP287 printer and the cost of cartridges comes to be same as the cost of the printer itself.

My usage would be home use but with around 30 pages a month or so.

re: Suggestions for printers

You can chose any model from Canon ImageClass. Or else you can also opt for a Panasonic 3-in-1 model. You can refill toner yourself in both these brands.

HP laser printers are made by Canon and only branded as HP.

Dont look beyon the HP 1005 laser printer cartridge, would cost you around 11500/-. The Cartridge used by this printer is the very popular Q2612a, which gives you 2000 copies and can be easily refilled from anywhere, Compatibe Cartridges are availiable for around 1000 bucks. Peace of mind

re: Suggestions for printers

I am getting the following prices:

Samsung SCX 3201 - 8200/- , Cost of toner - 2900/- (I am not sure if there are compatible cartridges from companies like Desmat for this one.)

Canon Image Class MF 3010 - 9000/- , Toner - 3150/- (There are compatible toners available for this for around 1000/-)

HP Laserjet Pro M1136 - 9700/- , Toner - 3200/- (There are compatible toners available for this for around 800/-)

HP Laserjet M 1005 - 11700/- , Toner - 3200/- (There are compatible toners available for this for around 700/-)

I am looking for something which will have the provision for compatible toners as they work good and help save running costs almost by 75%. Please advise.

Not at all necessary, but I bought one --- because I was fed up with throwing away cartridges and replacing expensive print heads (cartridge/head were separate on my Pixma) because they dried out and could not be restored. This was an expensive printer to begin with, and the high maintenance cost of occasional use was something I did not want again.

My Brother laser printer just works even if it has been untouched for several weeks. In the end, the cost of ownership should be much less than an inkjet.

re: Suggestions for printers

@Maverick

Go for HP 1005, believe me you will never regret it.

Samsung 3201 requires a chip to be changed every time you refill it, gives only 900 prints Max

HP 1136 has an 88A cartridge which gives max 1100 pages

Canon 3010 also uses the same 88a Cartridge, but the Canon Part no. is different.

HP 1005 has the hassle free Q2612a Cartridge which 2200 prints, the most proven and popular cartridge from HP. go for it, the extra amount spent will be compensated in 2 refills

My 2 cents based on past experience with cartridges ...
No offense to anyone here ..

The chip is embedded in the cartridge, not like you need to buy a cartridge and then take a screwdriver and open and change a chip etc...

This is true with all injket cartridges, 2200 prints will work only if you are printing continuously every day in 1 month non stop.

If you have adhoc printing requirements like 1 page in 20 days, most of the ink dries out and you will get maybe 25% of this number over a period of 1 year. Thats all the pages it will last.

@ Fillmore

1. Yes the Chip is embedded in the cartridge, when you refill the cartridge, you have to change the chip by removing the older chip and putting in a new one with the help of a screwdriver, otherwise the printer does not sense the cartridge and a red light flashes instructing you to put in a cartridge.

2. The Case you have put forward about constant printin is true with reference to Inkjet Printers, but in the above case all are Laser printers which have powder toners and dont use liquid ink technology. hence there is no problem even there is less amount of printing.

re: Suggestions for printers

I am thinking of going with the cheapest i.e Samsung SCX 3401 as I won't be printing a lot anyways and a single toner will last me for months. I just want to know if there are compatible toners available for it. Any idea guys?
