Have been using CANON LBP 1210. Excellent basic laser printer. Hassle free operations. Bought the printer seeing its rugged heavy duty performance at a number of DTP Shops (very popular among them). Has refilled catridge twice. No scanner attached to this. Better buy a separate scanner (if you have some spare desktop space) as I find that most entry level MFPs do not perform well.

Thanks for the suggestion guys but I need one with scanner due to less space on the table. Will also prefer the paper tray to not to be vertical.

Hi guys, I have shortlisted 2 printers.

1. HP M1136 for around 9.6k.
HP LaserJet Pro M1136 Multifunction Printer (CE849A) specifications - HP Home & Home Office products

2. Samsung SCX-4300 for around 7.6k.
monochrome laser multifunction printer - SCX-4300 - Mono Laser MFP - Laser Printer/Multifunction | SAMSUNG

Based on product quality, refilling convenience and after sales-service, which one do u suggest out of these two?

off the 2 printers above I really liked the Samsung SCX-4300 and was almost about to buy it.
I reasons I did not buy it:
  • Toner is not easily refillable as it has a chip (googled this n was also told the same by a couple of samsung retailers)
  • A standalone monochrome laser printer + standalone scanner turns out slightly cheaper than the SCX-4300 and a standalone scanner has much better functionality than the SCX-4300
I finally got a Xerox Phaser 3110/3117 and Canon LiDE100
Sorry cannot comment on the HP but for lack of space I think the Samsung SCX-4300 is a really good MFD.

peace,
~kg

Inkjet vs Laser

I am looking out for MFP (Multi functional Printer) for Home use.I intend to use it for next 5 years. I currently own Epson C43(2003) which needs an urgent replacement. Below is the cost of the printer and the consumable cost (All Genuine).
  1. HP Deskjet 3050 (Inkjet)= 5990/-
  2. EPSON TX 210 (Inkjet) = 4800/-
  3. Samsung SCX-3201 (Laser) =7700/-

HP Refill cost: Black(802B (120 & 100pgs)) = 450/- (Black), 600 (Color).
Epson Refill cost: Black(73N (255 & 395 pgs)) = 470/- (Black), 1410 (Color)
Samsung Refill cost: Black(MLT-D1043S (1500 pgs)) = 2900/- (Black).

Help me to select printer based on your exp.

I have recently purchased HP 1050 AIO and had previously used an EPSON inkjet (don't remember the model, was used 5-6 years back and disposed off).

EPSON print quality was absolutely pathetic. I don't know how is it now, but from reviews i have read, EPSON is still to catch up with HP. Moreover, HP has more service presence in India.

Go for the HP, eyes closed.

So am I, and have more or less decided on Canon 568.

My additional requirements: Linux drivers (essential) and network interface, preferably wfi.

I have been using a Canon Pixma printer up to now.

Re: Inkjet vs Laser

How is the quality of the Scanned image? Dose the Ink dry up quickly as i will be using it for photocopy(10-15pages per month) + Printouts (4-5 pages per month) some months it may stay idle. I have faced lot of Ink dry up issue on my Epson, had to cleanup frequently.

I think it is a good idea to regularly print a page on any inkjet printer.

It might be enough just to turn it on for a few minutes, but it is not much work/ink just to pull off one page. I've heard of people scheduling an automatic job to do it!

re: Suggestions for printers

Somewhat OT:

I'd like to buy a scanner - primary purpose is to archive old snaps. Mostly 4"x6" size.

I'm not too keen on a printer-fax-photocopy-scanner machine. The preference is for a standalone scanner.

Any suggestions?

Re: Inkjet vs Laser

I visited computer dealer today to buy HP 1050 AIO printer. Before issuing the amount, i thought of having a final glance on Samsung/Epson printer to see if my decision was right one.

I was impressed with the Samsung SCX 3201 MFP printer and finally decided to go with it.

I would like to thank "Thad E Ginathom" and "DCEite" for helping me in deciding the printer.

re: Suggestions for printers

Congratulations on your printer.

If you do not have a big need for colour, a laser printer will probably be much better value for you.

I still have pangs about letting go old HP Laserjet II machines from the office, as we upgraded. At the time, they just seemed huge and heavy, and the cartridge was hugely expensive. I bet they would have gone on and on and on (as an old washing machine TV ad used to say) and one cartridge might have lasted me ten years!

Thanks!. The Print & Scan Quality is awesome.I have one query: The printer has 16 Amp power cord. Can I replace it with 5Amp power cord? as the normal consumption is less then 270w in operation mode, ready mode its 36w and 3.8w in power save mode.

Here is the Specifications

re: Suggestions for printers

I think you should not replace the power cord.

The high rating is possibly because it takes a surge of current when the printing process begins. For this reason, a UPS that could suport an inkjet may not support a laser.

As a general, and strict, rule, I would never downgrade the rating of cables, plugs, fuses, etc.

Remember that every part in manufacturing has to get past the accountants: there will be a reason they have given you a 16-amp plug!
