  • No Flash (nor Silverlight) support in the browser
  • Too dependent on Zune software for file management and syncing
  • No video calls
  • New ringtones available only through the Marketplace
  • Music player lacks equalizer presets
  • No multitasking

Hope that Nokia will make many sweeping changes to Windows Phone 7 operating system.
It is reported that, Microsoft is committed to give Nokia power and authority over the platform that ...
Google has not and will not give any of its licensing partners.

Being Microsoft's strategic partner, Nokia will have privileges denied to other Windows Phone OEMs. Nokia will influence and shape Windows Phone 7.

That being said, at the present time, WP7 bristles with shortcomings, unworthy of a Nokia.

In addition to the ones observed above by Gandhi, there are also those mentioned below:
1) Swapping memory card requires hard reset
2) Cards not readable by computer
3) No unified inbox or threaded email
4) OS chokes on landscape view
5) Apps persistence not common to all apps
6) Poor Google integration
7) No WiFi Mobile Hotspot feature as in Android
8) Lack of Twitter integration

There's a long way to go and Nokia will go it, if it has to survive.
Besides, speed of time-to-market will be key. The later the first Nokia-branded Windows Phone hits the stores, the less likely it is to succeed.

Your optimism seems to fly in the face of the nature of Microsoft.

Anyway, my next phone will not be a Nokia.

Windows? Not in my pocket, thank you.

Samsung Just unveiled Galaxy S2 in the mobile world congress. Its really a monster with Dual Core processor (1Ghz each), 1GB RAM, 8MP camera with flash, HDMI out, 4.3" Super AMOLED+ screen, 1080p video recording with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

It is a true successor for the original Galaxy S. If priced below 30K in India, it will be a sure hit.

Meanwhile There is more interesting news from MWC2011 that is launch of Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo playstation phone.

When can we expect the galaxy s II to reach indian shores? April end may be? I think it will be priced upwards of 30k but. Anything less then 30k will be a steal for this phone.

They told that phone will be avaiable in Europe & Asia by end of this month itself. Not sure if it includes India though.
As Galaxy S is currently out of production, there is a chance that Galaxy S2 will be priced similar to old Galaxy S. Right now Samsung doesnt have any Android model in 20-30K range.

Man I hope thats true. It does make sense as Galaxy S is no longer available and samsung must be losing a lot of potential customers. I am buying the phone at 30k on the very first day then.

No announcements from HTC yet right?

Updates on Nokia:

1. Microsoft is paying billions of dollars to Nokia as part of the deal. Microsoft gets access to Navteq
2. Google is hiring platform developers from Nokia
3. Nokia's stock is at 13 years low
4. E7 released, but sale is abysmal since Symbian is now officially EOL
5. Nokia employees "walked out" en-masse using flex time on Friday. This was to protest the deal.

On Gizmodo I read Nokia's CEO quoting that "joining hands with Android is like going down without fight"

I think this will be a win-win situation for both the companies with this deal. Windows Phone seems to be great and this coupled with Nokia expertise may help both the companies.

Any clue why the Nokia employees were not happy with the deal ?

You mean any other reason other than losing their jobs?

My wife has been waiting for the E7. Why?

Nice keyboard to type SMSes (she types 60-70 per day)
Decent camera (not as good as the N8 but atleast as good as her N96).

For a simple Cellphone user who odes not want to loads applications on her phone I think the E7 will suit her needs. What do the market reprts say? Is is buggy? My wife's friend's N97mini is acting wierd (erratic) after barely 6 months of use.

Buying an Android phone? What you must know - Getahead : Rediff.com

Rediff has some recommendation for Andrioid phones:

Rs 8K-9K: Samsung Galaxy 5
Rs 11K-12K: LG Optimus One
Rs 16K-18K: Motorola Defy
Rs 20K-22K: HTC Desire
Rs 24K-25K: Samsung Galaxy S/ Nexus S/HTC Desire Z
Greater than Rs 25K: It really makes sense to wait for the new dual cores to rear their heads and pricing, as it will make for a better and informed choice.

Camera freaks: SE X10 or Moto XT 720
Media junkies: Samsung Galaxy S
Workaholics: HTC Desire Z/Motorola Milestone 2
Budget conscious: LG Optimus One (P500)

Not sure if it is "great" at this point of time. In future it might be, but look at these posts to see its current state:

This is the norm, usually Nokia releases firmware with bug-fixes 3 - 4 months after initial release. Data backup+Hard reset+firmware upgrade should fix the issue.

Regarding E7, future bug-fixes are suspect.

The newly launched Samsung Galaxy Pop comes at the same price with 2.2 (Froyo) and a larger 3.2 inch screen as compared to 2.8. Sasmsung cannibalizing the Galaxy 5 with less than hundred Rs difference between the two.
