Webcam recommendations

Hi,
I need to buy a webcam for Skype chatting.
Any recommendations?
- I will be only using on XP
- I will be using it only for Skype chatting.

What's a decent one to buy & how much will it cost?

5MP - that seems to be overkill for a web chatting. And 550 Rs seems to be a very low price for a 5MP webcam.

Its not effective 5mp. they are interpolated.

Go for iball twist or any cam from iball. they are really good and offers quality as good as more expensive creative or logitech.

Tx, SirAlec
Any idea how much it costs & what kind of warranty there is?

Also what are the minimum spec I should look for when buying a webcam to be used solely for Skype kind of chatting?

Buy Logitech - reliable and works like a charm. Low light sensitivity is better. Works out of the box with Skype and other apps, and the bundled software is quite good.

Opening up an age old thread. Thanks to Covid 19 situations.

Any recommendation on a webcam model to hook on to a monitor (27")?

Re: Webcam recommendations

Among the branded ones Logitech and Microsoft stand out. I just picked up Logitech C270 paying Rs 500 premium over selling price of 1,700. So I paid 2,200 as these webcams are rare to come by. Either that or demand has outstripped supply. It's got very decent resolution of 720P, if you go higher (1080P) you'll spend Rs. 6000 upwards. Webcam demand is high worldwide, as even in the US and UK they're sold for four times the price (post Covid situation)

Cheaper models are not available anywhere online or offline. Even I wanted to buy one in the 2K range but finally ended up buying Logitech B525 for 5K+ since that was the only one available in one of the shops near my house.

Re: Webcam recommendations

I bought a VX-7000 at the HP Store (old stock) for Rs.3000. Logitech ones are better, but rare. One needs to go to a shop in Koramangala to find one, I'm told

Re: Webcam recommendations

Webcam prices seem to have been jacked up like crazy due to COVID. Logitech C270 was INR 1500 in March and now around INR 2500. I was doing some online research and it turns out that there are a plethora of software that lets you use your smart phone as a virtual web cam. ‎'Iriun Webcam' was free, so I installed it on my android phone and my (Linux) laptop and I have to say it works flawlessly and delivers a HD stream (wifi mode was a bit slow, but connecting via android ADB was smooth). Both skype and google meet were able to detect the virtual webcam.

Apparently, it is also possible to use even wifi enabled security cameras as webcams. For eg, the Tapo C200 from TP link (which has 1080p, wifi, pan/tilt, recording and pretty much a lot of other features that a webcam cannot do and costs less than the Logitech C270) lets you transmit via RTSP to a computer, which can then be detected as a virtual web cam using free software like OBS studio. Likewise if you have a DSLR.

Re: Webcam recommendations

I used a MiTV Webcam, and it was good for faces but poor for documents (for video KYC). I know it is a TV webcam, but it would have been great if it could also focus clearly on the documents.

I am looking for a webcam that can focus on both faces and documents (if I need to show something) and primarily use it over a monitor for Zoom and Teams calls. What are my options in 2022?
