+1 to what rags has said. Lasers are very well capable of damaging human eyes (, it depends on how powerful the beam is). Moreover if you look at the back of any cd/dvd player you can always see in service instructions that "Avoid directly looking at laserbeam while servicing". Not a camera tech,so cann't comment on laser's affect on a camera lens.
